>parents have a house
>dad has $1m+ in the bank
>even more in a retirement fund
>hes still not retired
>half of it is being given to me when he passes, half to my brother
im a NEET with about $100k. its somewhat comforting knowing ill never have to worry financially for the rest of my life, but... i want to make it on my own, you know? id like to have at least 500k that i got all by myself...then i would consider that ive made it. hell, even 250k. i feel like 100k and no assets is too little for my age (34). so im just gonna keep trying to get my money up here and there.

I need you to understand that if you are a person with no debt and a liquid 100k in savings you're better off than 99% of the country.

>Be 35
>Only work comfy min wagie jobs
>Have $140k in cash
>Have $143k in stocks/ETFs

Currently live in my sisters backyard spare room, basically as their family pet lol. I live frugally and Hoping my dad doesn't get scammed out of the family home and that I will eventually live there. Unless they scam me and give it to my brother who has always mooched off them his whole adult life despite being the highest earner out of all of us.

Should I just keep buying into the same ETFs? I put 4/5 of my wage into my etfs, and the rest is just on food and petrol for work. I don't have any real skills, accepted and acknowledged I wasted my life. Just want something to build to give my sister's kids when I pass. Hopefully have them shocked at what I will leave them when I pass after having me roam around in their backyard while they grew up.

They currently love me but the oldest is 9 years old so I have a few more years before the jig is up and they realise I'm a deadbeat loser in society lol

Yeah this is why I avoid all my relatives except for my parents. I liked seeing them when I was growing up but now that I'm an adult, I don't want them to see what I've turned into. Plus the conversation always starts with "how's work?" or "what are you doing now?" and it's like I'm a NEET I wake up I sit on the computer I go to sleep. I have nothing to talk about.

>Mom inherits 100k
>Can't buy a property, near retirement age
>Propose to help her, buy half the property, she pays the loan, puts her cash in her half of the property
>Loan payment is considerably lower than the rent she is paying now
>"Yeah, I don't know, it feels weird buying half a property and still having to pay rent to my own son"
>"Your rent will be the same as the loan, I'm not making any profit, and it's far lower than your current rent, which you are giving away to some random boomer"
>"Yeah idk I feel weird about it"
>"Okay, well, that's the only way I can help you"
>"can't you just pay your loan? It's your half anyway!"
>"you're paying your landlords loan right now.. and I'm not gonna pay 800eu/month so you can live in a flat of your choosing."
>"I think I'll just keep the money on the bank for the inheritance later"
>"At least invest it and make it grow a little if you're not doing anything with it, it's gonna get eaten by inflation and inheritance tax"
>"no I feel weird about investing"
>"then give a part of it now, when I need it, instead of when I'm 50 and my house is paid off"
>"I don't know..."
thanks mom

You know deep down that youโ€™re a faggot and will forever suffer from imposter syndrome if you donโ€™t change soon (you admit to already feeling this). Also, your dad is going to end up living to 110 just out of spite.

Yes, I think this is what bothers me. Knowing that the only way to 'make it' is to have stable employment. There are some reasons why I don't want to enter the workforce right now which I don't want to share. I guess I'm afraid of having a crap job for the rest of my life, or of wasting time studying only to realise I don't like my chosen career path, at my age, the time is running out..or maybe it isn't, I don't know. Oh well.

If you feel this way because your family comes from money, and you have an expectation of more, that's one thing.
If you mean relative to the rest of society, you're very well off. I wouldn't keep 100k in cash unless you plan to spend it though. Also
>500k means I'll never have to worry financially for the rest of my life
We're heading into uncertain, strange times, friend. 500k is a lot of money, and is an enormous cushion between you and abject poverty, one so large it would be hard to fuck up if you manage it even somewhat decently, but assuming you live at least another 50 years, I don't think 500k cash, on top of your already existing 100k, is going to be enough to sustain you for the rest of your life.
If you gave me 600k cash right now, I wouldn't be able to survive forever off of it without having to work. The main reason is inflation. Shit is gonna be more expensive year over year, and 500k is a lot now, it's not going to get me as much 10, 20, 30, or 40 years from now.

Unless your dad was a kiddy diddler you're going to be around 60 when you get that 500k so I wouldn't be holding my breathe.

I am in a very similiar situation. I plan is to keep waging part time like I did for the last 8 years. Based on current numbers I will probably hit 1/2 mil in in the next 7-8 years. Thats probably when I call it quits.

Know this, your fist currency dollars are going to lose value hard and fast.
Keep as much fiat as you need to keep affairs up
Put the rest in tangible assets

I've seen this happen but also:
- Medical costs
- Reverse mortgage because dad wants money to have fun
- Scammed/conned

If the house is worth less than $1m, your parents have barely enough to retire. Depending on how long they live, I wouldn't expect much to come down to you and your brother.
>>61092640
Not true. $1m household net worth is just 75th percentile. Americans are WAY richer than anyone thinks. OP's parents are not even in the top 1%.

expect to actually receive something like 10% of your parentsโ€™ net worth. the rest they will spend on medical bills in their final years.

This world economy is bizarre. It used to be that a slightly autistic, mild mannered guy with a like new, hardly used condition penis would be putting saddles on the lord's mistress' horses or minding a market stall in the countryside on weekends selling parsnips and roasted hazelnuts. Not sitting on 100k, wondering about his Dad's retirement year (probably won't be for another 6-8 years, OP).

Just wait for gold to dip and then buy some. Or invest in the military industrial complex since it is guaranteed there will be war in South America like in Venezuela, Colombia if they don't bow to PISSrael, and perhaps even in Brazil via paramilitaries since that country is the real threat in the BRICS alliance as they are in the New World and could convince other Latin American countries like Mexico and Costa Rica to join BRICS.
