I would have unironically considered suicide if I studied computer science in college and graduated in the last 5 years
Changing my degree saved my life

Need an update on this. Do they really say "for real for real". The only thing I consistently hear is calling everyone "bro"

I feel more for people who are in the middle of studying computer science. They are forced to keep going and hope that there will still be jobs available, but most of the fears related to AI so far have been overblown

right, CS is not for everyone, in my entire class only 2 people could code and understand advanced concepts, I was one of them, the other guy? he created a home brew ray tracing engine for a video game from scratch 10 years before RTX was a thing

same. i was all in on the CS meme because, as i was told in high school, i would be "guaranteed a six figure starting salary"

it was an actual post on /biz/ that ended up grounding me in reality. i jumped ship while i still had a chance and now im a cozy NEET living with my parents

I dont regret dropping out of uni/cs degree. You need to be some special kind of autist to enjoy it.

I graduated in 2017 and made 200k/yr at 24, 300k/yr at 27. Net worth is 1.5 mil at 30 and that was with many suboptimal investment choices and profligate spending habits

Wouldn’t have been possible without computer science

my alpha nephew goes "bro" a lot, even though that's been around for a long ass time.

now he does "i'm a chill guy" whenever he wants to not be cringe. i just tell him "chill guys read books and do homework" and he starts getting mad kek

I dropped out as senior dual math/cs major in 2023 (my landlord broke in and had scrappers take my business equipment, so I had no choice but to drop out and I went out of business too). I’m in such a bad position it’s not even funny. I didn’t do this to myself, everything was going so well until then.

I’m going to try to finish 2026 and just hope the economy bounces back. I think devs will still be very necassary in the next decade and hopefully the math backdrop can land me a data job or something worst case. But man I am FUCKED I used student loans to purchase my business equipment, which ended up either in a landfill or taken by scrappers.

I was careful and calculated too. Business was exploding, I was fully invested and projecting $2-300k revenue for 2023 after landing some big clients / partnerships. Got my shit pushed in at the absolute worst time right in the middle of scaling when expenses are highest but revenue isn’t there. Spent a year working 60-80hrs a week at a wagie job to try and build back but all opportunities are gone.

So I have $30k debt and no degree, roughly $20k of that debt ended up scrapped/landfilled. And if I do even bother to graduate, I’m in a junior with no experience in an industry that’s getting absolutely assfucked.

My only shot is ignoring my debt completely and restarting a business that gets traction and/or having extremely successful investments. It’s just hella stressful and not where I expected to be. My credit sucks and I’m going to have to live out of my car next year now.

What would you guys do here? My brain is all messed up now so I really doubt I can just jump back into senior level real analysis and abstract algebra. I kinda want to just bang out the CS degree so at least get past HR filters. I have like PTSD or something from working on my business for years then finally getting success then getting brutally and senselessly rugpulled across my entire life. I would be in a better position if I had just smoked heroin and couch surfed in my early 20s. It’s like when someone comes and wipes your drive on some video game you’ve spent hours on but in real life.

I have some large, complex projects on my GitHub now that I’ve developed since leaving uni, hoping those could be what gets me in.

I’m not a CS anon so can’t give you pointed tips, but I would start by getting any entry level job to get any experience down on your resume.

It’s very difficult to land entry level cs jobs right now, especially with a degree. I’ll probably wait until my degree is completed at least.

Personally I kinda feel like CS degrees will become the new business admin / general purpose degree, or some combination thereof. Like a general purpose officebot. So I don’t think they’re terrible degrees.

If you have the chops for math I don’t think stats is a bad path. Lawyers and accountants will always be needed too.

why would you go for accounting if you think you're fucked if you study for a cs degree? If software engineers end up replaced by AI then accountans are 2x as fucked
