>Why do you want less rental units on the market?
I want landlords to be forced into selling their units at below market rates under the threat of back-breaking fines, increasing housing supply, and lowering prices. Basic economics. The
>build more houses
meme is a distraction, there's more than enough houses and units, but landlords have no incentive to rent them unless they feel like it, since they can refinance to kick their payments down the road, and large municipalities like NYC allow shady dealing to keep high property taxes flowing. This lets rents and house prices spiral out of control.
>Do you hate the poor?
The poor are poor for one of two reasons:
1. Really bad with money
2. Can't build equity, half of their paycheck goes into a landlord's pocket, constantly on a paycheck-to-paycheck treadmill
I can't fix 1, but making it so that anyone who wants to can own their home fixes 2, as does a general decrease in home prices.
