Hope you're doing well. Life's a cruel mother, but a good teacher. It all really comes down to interpretation. Even Anno, the creator of EVA, had changed his outlook on life after his magnum opus. Trying to change it's form by writing a sequel. Rebuilds are Anno's Evangelion. His reinterpretation of the meaning that Evangelion originally held. He is not God. He's just a man like any other trying to mimic God. Something more akin to the devil. Like an ape trying to mimic man. The irony, Rebuilds came after NGE yet pale in comparison. They are not the successor of NGE, but a half-assed sect.

Because he realized that he was the asshole the whole time. He was angry at the Asuka/Rei fandom because he intended his characters to be unlikable. But like the boomer he is, he didn't understand that his customer is buying escapism.

He only realized after the fact that he'd done it to himself from the start. His audience was NEVER going to reject Rei for being an emotionally stunted Oedipal fuck doll, nor Asuka for being a bitchy, traumatized tsundere.

It was always going to be Shinji that caught the audience's wrath.

Anno didn't realize that until well after End of Eva.

Is Anno admitting to himself, that if Evangelion had been as forgettable as Aquarion or RahXephon, if he'd stuck to the formula, none of the Asuka/Rei fandom would have happened.
