>"Sponsored" by babysf, VIPs got some postcards and appointment priority.
>Gothic Lolita Market's second time in US.
>Various western indie brand debuts, some of which were actually good.
>Haenuli was there, but no brand guests otherwise.
>Panel lineup mainly consisting of "How to be a youtuber" and "How to use lolibrary", rendering the convention more of a 3-day shopping event than anything. Dance event turnouts were bleak. Coord contest was unremarkable.
>Doll museum was actually fairly active, panel host gave out doll-sized badges and ribbons.
>Massive turnout for photo shoots.
>Massive swap meet turnout.
>Ursa Major 2025 is confirmed

All in all, not bad for a second year convention, but besides the VIP shopping pass and swap meet, there's not a lot of incentive to buy a badge. Hopefully next year they flesh out the panel lineup a bit more. I'm not sure the convention can sustain itself if it's essentially just a weekend pop-up j-fashion mall.

The GLM sold out of anything good fairly quickly. The VIP line was huge, so there wasn't much left by the time regular badge holders got in. They also did not bring as much stock as they did last year.

The Ursa market vendors varied more. Some of the new indie brands sold out of everything but necklaces within the first 20 minutes or so. I regretted not going there first, because I ended up only buying one thing the entire weekend.

It was pretty crowded, too, but the stock issues were definitely a major issue. I feel sorry for anyone who bought the VIP badge but ended up at the end of the line. People were lining up over an hour before the doors opened, so if anyone who didn't show up early probably didn't get anything.

didn't this happen last year, too? (i didn't go, so only secondhand info.) i wonder how UM can prevent this from happening in the future. the entire event is about shopping, so i'd be pretty frustrated if i had VIP but everything was sold out.

VIP costs extra, too.
Last year stock held up through the VIP line, but there were either less VIP badge holders, or they all showed up late. I know some non VIPs who managed to buy some things, and there were plenty of leftovers that were posted to the online shop. This year I was one of the first in the door, so I could see there was just less stock, and the online shop only had a couple of items.

I'm not sure what they could do about it. They would either need to have vendors bring more stock, or sell less VIP passes.

Anyone going to Great Lace? Ticket price seems a little expensive, especially for a first time event. Plus there is no mention in the FAQs about refunds due to weather, what if the weather is still too bad to travel anywhere in March? Iโ€™m not familiar with Midwest weather but it sounds risky to buy flights and a few ticket for an event in the winter in the Midwest

As a Midwesterner, weather wise, what's trickiest is the temperature. Could be in the 70's or the 30's as we transition into spring. You usually don't have to worry about extreme weather around this time of year besides rain or maybe snow.

I'm the Anon that posted about commisioning VM's short boot replicas in leather. Got them a while ago.
No complaints about fitting, custom-made and all. Had them made with a shorter heel for comfort's sake but overall pretty happy with the result. Leather looks and feels good, so from now on whenever possible I'll have lolita shoes made-to-order.

I know there's a decent cross over between the lolita and BJD community so I figured I'd ask here. I'm thinking of making miniature versions of lolita brand dresses to sell.

What prints and sizes would you like to see? Also, how do you feel about using custom printed fabric of prints? I don't personally think this goes into replica territory, given that they are sized for dolls, but does anyone else feel differently? I of course wouldn't copy anything that has a doll sized version already. I'm planning on hand making maybe 3 of each set, so no huge runs or anything. Is Etsy still the best place to sell these types of items?

Thanks in advance for anyone who is able to answer.

Love this idea!

Baby's recent collab with Volks was only for SD sizes, so I'm really interested in MSD size lolita dresses. I don't mind doll-sized versions of prints personally. I'd want to buy one so I can match my doll with a print that I already own.

As a sweet lolita, I'd love to see Milky Planet because I don't think it ever got a doll-sized release.

Watched a lor video against my better judgement. She went on a tangent about how uncreative it is for lolitas to wear brand sets and people who buy just brand and don't buy other stuff are missing out. What is it with western lolitas and attacking the brands that made the fashion? Like, baby, meta, and moitie are not huge companies. I feel like westerners think brand = big rich company, and company = evil, but they're not big or rich. They're basically small businesses that make a really unique product, and supporting them is good.

She only took this view recently. Remember she used to exclusively wear brand in the beginning of her youtube channel. There were several indy western brands around where she lived, taobao and some Korean companies starting. It sounds like she is pandering to an audience that can't afford or fit into the burando she used to wear regularly. If it wasn't that she would approach it from the view that having more options is a good thing in general. She wouldn't be criticizing people for enjoying something in a way that doesn't impact her.

Boots anon here.
To the Anonette interested in commissioning shoes from my local shoemaker: good news, the guy is actually making stuff for people out of the country. He told me he's made shoes for people in the US since last time we spoke, so I think he's really trying to expand his market. I told him about someone being interested in his work because they were really impressed with the boots I posted here. There is hope.
Bad news: doesn't speak English.

I wouldn't bother with brand petticoats, several offbrand ones give you better shape at a fraction of the cost
Shoes is 50/50, personally I've had too many pairs fall apart or disintegrate after only a couple wears that I don't think they're worth the price tag especially with so many cute options on taobao nowadays
Blouses, yes. Brand blouses are nice quality and should last you a long time, they're staple pieces and it's worth investing money in getting good ones.

Why is it I see so little classic lolitas lately on my IG feed? It's literally a vicious cycle: I mostly see sweet and old school, so ofc if I see coords I like, I heart them, but it tells the algorithm to show more sweet etc etc. So rn there is practically no classic anymore. But I don't understand why there were so little classic cords in the beginning. I know it's the least popular substyle but still, damn. I think if I weren't following classic brands like IW and VM I prolly wouldn't see classics at all

But even if this isn't exactly what you got please look into it, they could still be worth a lot.
If it's gothic or classic they could be worth even more

These are the ones I've already sorted out. There's another half of the closet I still need to decide what will get sold and which are being kept for sentimental value.

You should go on Lace Market, type in the name of each dress you want to sell (if you don't know the name check lolibrary) and filter by Only Completed auctions (under advanced search). That way you can see for how much the dress has been sold previously. Optionally you can also sort the results by Created Date because old school items have gotten much more expensive lately. For anything that's worth $300+ I would do an auction with no BIN (buy it now price).

Oldie looking to rebuild their wardrobe. Any brand recs for custom sized blouses? I'm a tall fatty, so want to avoid shirred stuff. Mainly looking at classic/gothic style.

10 yrs ago I remember buying some from a Vietnamese brand on Facebook. They did a nice chiffon blouse with pintucks similar to pic related, less lace though. I'm pretty sure most of the indie brands I used to follow are gone now.

Cool, I'll look into them.
I went down a rabbit hole and found the brand (The Floral Notebook). Safe to say they are gone now as their last post was in 2017/18.

to update my question a little bit, anyone have any brand favorites on 42lolita? they have an almost overwhelming list. So far I was interested in miss point, dawn and morning, Yllia, any low-key stuff along those lines.

Take out a measuring tape and wrap it around your bare skin.
DO NOT use your belt measurement; it's larger then your waist measurement. Same thing with your pants; it's not the size of your waist; the dressmaker wants your BODY measurement, not the garments made larger then you to fit over your body.

>obsessing over fatties instead of wanting to wardrobe build

Even VM does occasional plus size releases now. AP has been releasing full shirring to keep fats happy. Meta has always been kind of a fat girl brand, some of their older normal size stuff has ridiculously large measurements. This is nothing novel or worth getting your ass in a bunch over.

i'm not going to "wardrobe build" with cuts i don't like and modern vm and ap both look like trash so what's your point? i'm tired of everything being baggy and fully shirred now just to cater to fatasses instead of being any kind of intentional design decision, it's lazy and looks sloppy. the original cuts were much cuter so i'd rather hold out for that than settle for the rerelease. looks like i struck a nerve though.

How low IQ can you even get? Retards shouldnโ€™t be allowed in lolita. Get it altered, buy shit that fits, or preferably, leave the fashion.

Gorgeous, I'm glad to see Meta bringing back Gobelin Bouquet. Maybe I'm in the wrong spaces, but I'm surprised by the absolutely tepid response from the western comm, especially when Meta's Antique Bouquet was well-received last year. Meta themselves mentioned that Gobelin Bouquet was highly requested for re-release and Japanese Twitter had quite a few tweets talking about how cute the release is and how nice the samples were, so it's odd how quiet the western spaces are.

Not just this, everything seems slower now? There are pieces currently on LM that would have been the target of a bidding war last year which have 1-2 bids at most, if any. Is it the recession, or are oldschoolers moving on?

Does anyone have opinions on brand petticoats?
I often hear they are not necessarily worth it, but the price isn't so crazy with the yen how it is and I have a used Baby one that seems to have held up pretty well so planning to replace a MeLikesTea one that has shredded after many years of regular wear.

Do you guys prefer any specific brand or have a good experience with one?
