/cgl/'s opinion on Chinese cosplayers?
They seem to have made a whole industry around cosplaying as groups for streams. The groups are typically themed as one property or another. I was made aware of this from a Naruto themed Douyin group. But all kinds of anime and other properties are used as themes. There are male groups as well as female groups. Viewers pay "gifts" to have members dance. Sometimes solo dances other times group dances.

I've never seen anything like this outside of Asian countries. Would anyone from the west consider doing something like this?

Her group is typically dressed in Naruto cosplay. But sometimes they where these other costumes to perform special solo dances.

Chinese cosplayers/influencers are all fake. Makeup, prosthetics, and modern filter technology allows pretty much anyone to look like an 11/10 with the proper preparation.

The girl that I've been posting is an idol that does live events, so I really doubt that. Besides, northern chinese girls generally look great without makeup.

The girl in black is Yiting. She looks friendly with her big smile, but she's actually the number 1 instigator of the group. While Lai Lai is merely bratty and belligerent, Yiting goes out of her way to cause trouble.

The ones like in the OP are all filtered up. They don't even care. For example, Lai Lai was eating something on stream.(they do little side streams, when they're not performing on the main one) And as she was eating her chopsticks were very noticeably warping around her face. Her chat asked her about it, and she just barked back "it's a filter, so what?" They do not care.

I'm surprised more girls outside of Asian don't try something similar. I've seen some Western maid Cafes. And I've seen some kind of clown themed OF group. But I've never seen just a dedicated dance troupe in the west. Not like how they do it in Asia, where you can request specific dances from specific girls, and each group is themed.

If you are going to use a face filter, why choose to look like an extraterrestrial?

I've been really impressed by some male chinese cosplayers I've seen footage of on youtube. I didn't try to remember their names though so I've got nothing to show you.

With some footage/pictures it looks more like a 3D-render than an actual piece of footage/photograph. I can't tell if something is just heavily filtered and smoothed out or not an actual person to begin with.
Sometimes with some content it's obviously a real person but they use some kind of overlay filter (in combination with really good makeup skills) to give them features that more closely resemble the character. You can see the filter move/glitch when they move.

On one hand I like looking at footage of characters come to life even if that is thanks to filters and editing, on the other hand some more authenticity is also nice. AFAIK their general stance towards filters/editing is that it's not bad to use it because it improves the end product.

I've seen some masked characters, and without the filters/editing. It's clear they've put a lot of effort and skill into their cosplay.

Video edit credited to "Hinata Clips" on tiktok. Which is one of the accounts that posts clips of the Naruto group's live streams. The lives stream is on douyin. So I rely on the reposters to get my Lai Lai fix every day.

I've seen that once. It was a short compilation that showed the cosplayers with and without filters. It was pretty amazing how much the filter makes them look like the character.
