Had this problem a year ago, there are some, I live in France so we got the Japan Expo in Paris in july this year (often 200k visitors), we got Japan Expo Sud (sud mean south) and it's in south france in the 2nd biggest city, Marseille (often 40k visitors) like in december and we got smaller ones in smaller cities like the Jpan Pop Show in "Nice" (around 5-8k visitors), Don't know many others in Europe, there are some pretty good around germany and spain, good luck if you live in east europe... maybe poland and slovakia or even croatia/slovenia.

you should just go, i'm going to Dokomi by myself as well even though i'm socially inept. i have never been to Dokomi before but it's huge and there are many different kinds of meetups if you want to chat with people, you can find them on the Dokomi portal. there are hundreds of artists selling their work, many vendors, food stalls and events to attend so i think it's still worth going if you're not interested in meetups or whatever.

Dokomi is really fun, you can use animecons.com to figure out a list of them has most of the big names.

Finland is among my favorite cons, Germany and Netherlands a tie, never done french cons.

Dokomi is huge and worth it IMO, plenty of fun stuff there just bring water for whatever reason they fuck up the water coolers and some of those faucets to fill up are revolting.

I'll be at Dokomi and probably bump this thread if it's still up feel free to AMA
