Con dances are a vestigial relic of a time when cons were actually about socializing with other marginalized nerds rather than a place for casual normies to shop for merch and pose for pictures in store-bought costumes. I'm honestly kind of surprised they exist at all anymore.

Con dances were a place to just hang out and meet other weebs and nerd in one place. Dancing was a good excuse to mix and mingle with various people until you found a few cool to hang out throughout the night.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been much talk about Fanime this year in a lot of places unlike last year where there a lot to discuss, especially since the failed by Fanime situation came up.

I liked the dances when they were bigger, and didn't have all the/half of overhead lights on. It was loud, dark, bumping, and I could just dance all the night away without any sense of anyone watching. A club is shit because the main draw there is to get hooked up, and raves are not what they used to be, music festivals are too expensive. I'm already paying for the on, a proper setting to cut loose was always such a good time.

First time not going since I started going in '09. Not even a diamond plated ball pit could save them.

Forgot I had an extra hotel room at the Marriot. It's a double from 05/22 - 05/26 (Thurs-mon). If you plan to come in on friday you can easily change the check-in date.

Used to all be on one block with Video Rooms and other panels in nearby hotels. Now there's "Shuttles" you need to take across town to get to video rooms and the ballroom for the main dance keeps shrinking.

Oh what the fuck, I haven't been since I think 2017 and I'm only just realizing how much shit has changed there. I had no idea the Fairmont was a Hilton now. Having con stuff at the Doubletree is wild too. Sucks, Fanime was always my favorite big con back in the day and I've been hoping to go again at some point but it sounds like a clusterfuck.

The Fairmont got bought out during the pandemic. Everyone I know still calls it The Fairmont. Also the con center is 24 hours anymore, which was the real blow. That really set fanime apart from other conventions. I'm still optimistic it will be brought back at some point, mostly because I still want to believe the con will rebuild itself and return to the glory days.

I went to a Giant's game last week and there were no less than 2 dozen of those carts all over the exits. It is pretty early in the day so they're likely doing other stuff until school/work lets out.

I was at the splatoon meet and was talking to folks about the LAN that's gonna be a month from now and stuff we want to see in Squid Game 4. You need to make your own fun. The night market opens at 7 and you take take the shuttle. Last year there was a VR interactive erotica booth at the Oasis.

How's your haul going? Got some nice acrylic stained glass Standees of my BG3 party, and at the swap meet got 2 cards I needed for my Tiamat commander deck.

DESU, it'll cause a hit to Fanime because they don't have a good alternative to it while the con center tells them they can't be 24/7 anymore. All the cons post pandemic were kind of boring except for CWF and Parkcon, now I'm really thinking of just doing Momocon or Kublacon

I've been going since 2011, and the only reason I come is because staffing is free and I've always lived close to the con center. I don't watch a lot of anime anymore and I'm more enamored by capeshit and movies. I miss when it was more multi-fandom, especially the guy who was Discworld Death.

I'm an advocate of anime cons being for anime, but I wish there were more good multi-fandom cons in general. I've also gotten more into Western media as I've gotten older (though not capeshit) and there's stuff I'd really like to cosplay, characters from more adult-oriented TV shows and stuff, as well as some OC historically-inspired type stuff, but nowhere other than Dragoncon that really suits it since it's not in that comic/capeshit genre that most non-anime cons mostly focus on.

Unironically San Diego Comic-Con. People who say it's only big commercial stuff have never went or only hang around Hall H. There were lots of indie comic book artists, video game devs, anime people, indie movie guys. Leonard Maltin comes every year, and the Eisner Awards represent every fandom.

I'll likely check out Dragoncon this year. It's bizarrely cheaper for me to get a flight-hotel package from SJ for an entire week than to go to Sac-Anime.

Just commissions that won't be finished until weeks from now, though I did get a Touch Grass sticker for four bucks and the autographs of the Digimon VAs by chance, thanks to embarrassing myself at the VA panel.

I took way less pics this year. It seemed there were less people in general. Even Parkcon (sat shutdown aside) was less crowded.
