Cheese on tater tots seems good (as long as it's good cheese). Throw in the ground beef and I'm there. Even the onions or green beans on their own could make a good addition. But all of those together along with the cream of mushroom soup starts to feel like I'm just eating someone else's predigested meal
Part of the reason why people gravitated toward simpler dishes in recent years is because it allows you to actually savor each individual ingredient more
Also, let's not forget that the origins of mid West cooking comes from the wives of farmers who were explicitly trying to use up surpluses of different foods before they went bad. Contextually, this type of food doesn't really make a lot of sense for other regions where food is a lot more expensive and less plentiful. Just saying.
