no I bought it just this Saturday
I just boiled it, then dumped the water cause last time it was sour as well
I figured boiling, then draining would get rid of most of the lactic acid but now I'm thinking maybe it needs to be washed like rice

They're sourdough gnocchi and personally I like them. But yeah, they should be labeled differently so people like you who don't like that kind of flavor profile don't buy it expecting regular gnocchi.

Nearly any shelf-stable gnocchi you can buy will be sourdough. The lactic acid that gives it its sour flavor is also a preservative, and gnocchi can't really be made shelf stable without that.

Looks like great soup. If they have it at your Trader Joeโ€™s I think the tri color mini gnocchi in the refrigerated section is not sour (I havenโ€™t had myself)

Anon make your own. Gnocchi is one of the easiest things to make (in contrast to pasta which is a pain).
- Cook some potatoes in a microwave
- Rice them in a potato ricer. If you don't have one mashing works too, just slightly less nicely
- Add an egg
- Add as little flour as possible to get it to form a cohesive dough you can form
- Put in boiling water
- Once they start floating (~2 minutes or so) remove and either put into cold water (to stop the cooking) or immediately eat.

10x better than store bought gnocchi, no sour taste and healthier.

it's sour because they use citric or lactic acid as a preservative. otherwise how would it stay on the shelf?

If you have a ricer and a microwave it's criminally easy. Without them, it's still not hard, but takes a bit more time.
But if you like the ones from the supermarket, then obviously in terms of ease that's hard to beat.
I've just always found gnocchi that are homemade and store bought to basically be distinct products, store bought gnocchi rarely actually taste of potato.
Anyways, I recommend to try it out sometime, worst case you find it too annoying and wasted half an hour, best case you got a tastier way to make gnocchi with a lot more potential for variation.

It pretty much is, I'm afraid to admit.
You can make mashed potatoes or gnocchi mostly.
I also use it for ice cream, which is a german thing though and mostly done because kids love it (picrel).
You can use it for other stuff, like egg fillings or apple sauce, but honestly that's approaching cope territory.
It's very much a unitasker. I'd argue one worth having, but that doesn't change that that's what it is.

>ice cream noodles...
It's really simple:
- you put some whipped cream on a plate
- press vanilla ice cream through a ricer over it
- then add some strawberry sauce to imitate "tomato sauce"
- optionally grind some white chocolate over it to simulate parmesan
The cold ice cream will freeze the top of the cream while the inside stays soft, it's quite a pleasant experience. I think they originally added it to bulk up the product/save on ice cream but personally I really enjoyed the cold cream inside.
>if the store bought ones dont work out ima just mash em
That's totally fine. The end result will be slightly less aery and pillowy, but still more so than store bought, so it's still a net positive.

they are drier than freshly made ones but if they were dry enough to preserve them it would be impossible to cook
