I wish. Souvlaki is actually edible and good. The majority of Greek cuisine is neither. There's a reason Greek/Turkish food is only popular in countries with shit cuisine like Britain and Sweden: theirs is even worse, so compared to shit like kidney pie and pickled fish with bananas, sour cream and ketchup, Greek cuisine and the smelly brown people who brought it to them are a godsend. It's like how every group of hot girls has the one ugly bitch. They're not actually that hot but compared to Aughra from Dark Crystal, they're all 10/10s so they keep the hideous fucking thing around.
That's Greek cuisine.

It's literally the same thing. Actually, no. Turkish is both ever so slightly worse and ever so slightly better. There are a few Turkish exclusives I enjoy and many, MANY I find utterly revolting. The lack of pork and the inexplicable near-absence of seafood makes Greek slightly better to my pork-eating, peninsular tastes.

Looking it up, it seems Turkish home cooking is rich in seafood so maybe I'd like it. I've never been to Turkey, the only Turkish bitch I've dated only cooked for me once (and it was just sucuklu yumurta) and Turkish restaurants are devoid of fish. I didn't won't to make false statements so I'll amend this to say I guess I didn't really know Turkish food. I have, however, eaten in Greek homes and I don't tend to like it unless fish is involved.

No, I'm one of those awesome Italians who knows our history, particularly of my area, and knows that we diverged from Greek cuisine about a thousand years ago. There are still some things we both enjoy, like string/green beans in tomato sauce or grilled fish with lemon and olive oil, but our cuisines are entirely almost entirely unlike one another besides sweets. And I hate our sweets as much as I hate Greek ones lmao

I don't get all the rave about our cuisine. It's not bad but I can't say I've been actually impressed with a traditional dish and it's too much work for something of "just ok" quality to actually bother cooking on a frequent enough basis. Like someone mentioned before, I understand being impressed by it if your home cuisine is fermented innards and the like but that's just plain sad.

Greek is really rare in the United States and every time I find a greek place its shit. I do cook greek food at home a lot but its mostly just adding lemon juice lemon zest and oregano to a potato and chicken baked dish. Gyros are pretty good but yeah its not a big thing here and it's just not the best food in the world. In greece you can get good fish like anywhere in the med. The best food I had in greece was super high fat greek yogurt.

Also add a lot of thyme. Oregano and thyme is really what gives you that gyros/döner flavour. Maybe some mild chili flakes like pul biber and small amounts of cardamom, coriander or mustard (powder) for that real take away taste.

Yeah. The thing is Italy's entire cuisine is basically pasta. Mexico's is basically tacos. Japan is basically sushi and so on.
