I almost never feel that the sushi I get NEEDS soy sauce, or wasabi, and I'm surprised at how many people think it does. Are people just going to shitty sushi restaurants where the quality is subpar? If you go to fine omakase sushi restaurants in Japan they put wasabi on for you before you get the piece of nigiri. They will also instruct you on which pieces they believe you shouldn't dip in your soy sauce.
