This.
Also, what happened to produce trucks? I lived in the US in the early 90s and there were produce trucks that traveled around block to block in the city selling fruits and vegetables. I'm back in the US and they're just gone now. I was talking about it with my pharmacist a few months ago.

These exist in places where there's a critical mass of pedestrians

That's a stand. I'm talking about a truck. It didn't park somewhere to set up. It moved block to block announcing what produce it had that day and the prices through a loud speaker. It was like an ice cream truck but for tomatoes and lettuce.

I do instacart and I deliver fresh produce every day, from the cheap grocery stores to the nice grocery stores I'm picking up produce maybe 50% of my orders. Some orders are all frozen slop and other junk but I get plenty of people ordering from the expensive stores getting high quality produce and other products.

I think what OP means is that if you try to get fruits and vegetables delivered you get the shittiest ones they can get away with giving you. I know lots of people who refuse to get groceries delivered specifically because of produce

>just pay the $20 delivery fee (double if you're on the wrong street)

Beggars can't be choosers. If you can't be bothered to pick your lazy ass up off the sofa and go buy some fruit, then you pay for the convenience of somebody bringing it to you. Do you think that fast food delivery doesn't have exorbitant extra fees too? Cause it does.
Also apps like instacart are generally same day delivery.

?
Safeway has:
• free delivery on orders above a certain amount (not sure what that amount is but I think it's $35, which is basically five jujubes and a pack of gum at expensive-ass Safeway lmao; missus and I don't trust others to pick our produce)
• two hour delivery
• $X subscription fee (not sure how much but I think it's $100 annually and that poors get it half off with a registered foodstamp card)
You're inventing a scenario that quite literally does not exist.
Also, just order Chinese food, Jesus. Half the time, it comes with shitty sliced oranges anyway.

A local farmer does that where I live, drives around town every Thursday to sell his veggies directly, I'm sure that's more like a hobby/community thing though, can't imagine him living of that.

A local farmer where I live got drunk last Halloween and started fucking the jack-o-lantern on his porch. He jizzed in it.
