I went to walmart to check out their video game section and saw these. Didnt even know it existed. I had the original Shin and the Shin black before and they are both excellent, as rated number 1 by the New York Times
It sat on the shelf overnight but by next day I opened it up. Usually I make 2 packages but this time I decided to pair it with chicken nuggets, so only cooked 1
I was really disappointed by it. I see Nongshim and Shin as the leaders and innovators of instant ramen but this is just a sad knockoff of Buldak, except it’s spicy beef instead of spicy chicken. The flavor just isn’t even there like is for Buldak (original, for comparison’s sake). It tastes like they dumped the spices and called it done when it was spicy enough, instead of making sure there is a sense of harmony in the flavor they are trying to create. Think about it this way, 2 people were tasked to create a dish that has a certain number on the Scoville scale. Person A just dumped the spices to reach that goal and Person B sat up day and night experimenting with the flavors to make the best possible dish that also meets the Scoville scale rating. What Nongshim did here tastes like Person A’s dish
1.5 stars out of 5
I only recommend eating these to cure hunger for survival. I do not recommend eating it for a tasty meal or to have a fun new experience because the flavor profile just isn’t there

I mentioned I paired the dish with chicken nuggets but they weren’t ready in the oven until after I had finished eating these noodles, so they didn’t interfere with my judgment in anyway
