My parents are on a diet and asked me for a steak recommendation and I told them flank steak, as it's fairly lean and still tasty. They brought this home and sent me a pic of it. I tried telling them they got scammed but they seemed convinced and trusted the butcher and assured me this is an image of flank steak. Can anyone confirm my doubts or could this actually be flank steak? I'm not too educated on steaks so I might be wrong after all.

With flank steak you can very well see the muscle fibers. Now I'm no butcher but this obviously isn't flank.

I buy pork shoulder steaks quite frequently and it looks just like those. So, no not flank. It's from the shoulder/neck area.

They did get scammed, that looks like a particularly low fat chuck roast to me.
Tbh still not bad for dieting but I wouldn't go back to that butcher.

It doesn't say flank steak, it says chuck (at least I think the corresponding English meat area name would be chuck). I asked my parents and they were like "Oh yeah so they usually don't have people buying chuck so they usually turn it into minced meat, but they decided to give us the flank for the price of chuck, that's why it says that". Like no mom, they literally just gave you chuck.

Close up shot after I came home to check on the steaks. The fibers don't look super thin but there's just so much more white fat on them than I'm used to from seeing flank
