Any recommendations for good zero alcohol beverages? Good brands and such. I've seen zero alcohol gin, is it good?

Sparkling ciders taste pretty good because they're literally just carbonated fruit juice. Nothing else is palatable, not even for cooking

you have to make it yourself because these companies are not allowed to do it the proper way. you need to use a lactic bacteria culture to ferment it since you can use regular wort instead of engineering something that would result in less alcohol. lactofermenting for 3 days will make it fully carbonated and not make it sour

Most of these 0% ABV drinks taste like utter shit on their own, because an alcoholic drink relies on the alcohol burn for part of its flavor profile. Alcohol is a very potent solvent, so it fixes flavors in a way water simply cannot.
The main way one could constructively (that is to say, make something which is even moderately drinkable, instead of shitslop) use these is to lower the ABV of a regular cocktail. Ex. you use regular vermouth and angustura/peychaud/etc. bitters, but swap the standard Gordon's with the 0.0 version.
Or you use regular prosecco, but swap the regular Aperol for the 0.0 one.

I was house-sitting recently and found pic related in the pantry cupboard. It tastes mostly of cardamom.
Next to it was a bottle of peach iced tea concentrate and a bottle of Aperol. I had brought my own whisky and vodka. After a fun bit of workshopping, I came up with a decent cocktail. Didn't note the final recipe, since I'm unlikely to be in that situation again any time soon.

Can't you just buy alcoholic beverages and leave the cap off overnight? I've done that before by accident, and I'm pretty sure that's all I had left afterwards.

lmao my grandma was neurotic about getting the cap back on her vodka asap for this reason. leaving the cap off the bottle wont do this to a noticable degree overnight. leave it out in a glass and you'll notice a change in the flavor after sitting out over night, and sugary beverages will begin to turn to vinegar

because alcohol kind of sucks.
the initial buzz is nice for a bit, but it's short lived. the actual flavor is nice once in awhile. I don't personally care for the intoxication imo.

If that's the case, just develop a taste for neat whiskey. One standard drink equivalent can last for hours if you take occasional sips to appreciate the flavor like a sommelier. The flavor is also generally strong enough that you're not gonna want to have any more than a sip every few minutes unless you're a frat bro or alcoholic.

Non-alcoholic gin doesn't taste bad, but it's too expensive for what it is and weak in flavor because most flavor compounds dissolve better in alcohol than in water.

Non-alcoholic beer is alright, but the process of removing the alcohol leaves the malt with some taste of slightly stale cereal. Therefore, hoppy NA beers are better because they mask this off-note with the hop character.

If you want a low ABV drink with the taste of gin, I recommend adding a splash of high proof gin to a glass and filling it with soda water. Any strongly-flavored spirit can be used in small doses like this as a flavor extract. It works particularly well with absinthe if you like that flavor.

A non alcoholic "bottle shop" opened in my city recently. It's like an upscale wine store except everything they sell is non-alcoholic versions of wine, beer, and spirits. They're not going to last long.

i saw this thread and it gave me the idea to pour a cup of tonic water and put some orange juice in it
it was good :)
maybe you could add some more stuff to it, like a bit of lemon juice, but it was good like this anyway, and i didnt have anything else

>Therefore, hoppy NA beers are better because they mask this off-note with the hop character.
This is something I've noticed as well. Piss-lager-style macrobrews either taste like stale dough, or use various dodgy "natural flavors" to mask it.
Strongly hopped NA beers, like Clausthaler Dry-Hopped, don't need to add extra shit to mask that funk.
