forget rice sauces. look into new rice cooking liquids beyond water and stock

butter and lemon or lime is pretty simple but surprisingly tasty.

this. rice sauces come in two varieties: oily or sticky, both cases feel like you're just adding condiments
If you have concentrated stock, throw that in the water. Replace water with broth, or go 50/50. Mix your spices and oily/sticky condiments (chili, honey, oyster, hoisin, etc) and throw THAT into the mixture before cooking for added flavor

What did you end up getting? Curry, marinara, or just sesame seed oil are all great with rice. Meat gravy is also good

Nice post, was going to say curry or gravy. If you're going to eat the rice with a runny egg too, even butter and soy sauce works. A little sesame oil goes a long way with salted butter and soy sauce. Maybe go with a light soy sauce depending on how much rice you're saucing up, I tend to have more rice than I know what to do with though so stronger sauces are preferred.

Stock is good too, but flavoring the rice before cooking is kind of a different deal. Sometimes it is nice to just pour something over plain rice. A million ways you can flavor rice while cooking, I like the Puerto Rican rice with peas and olives. Or a good egg fried rice, nice if you have plain rice left over.
