What are some regional things that people who don’t live/didn’t grow up in your area understand?

This is a tomato pie and it is 100% NOT pizza. (Philly). A lot of times when people have it, or in regional pizza ranking videos, they will compare it to pizza. It is NOT PIZZA. It is a TOMATO PIE.
1) It is on a focaccia-like bread, not a pizza dough
2) Almost no cheese besides a light dusting of parm
3) Sweeter, less seasoned sauce
4) Served room temperature as an hors d'oeuvres
5) Sold in bakeries, not pizza shops
6) Most popular during summer months
7) Enjoyed in small quantities and savored; not something you and your buddies get after a night of drinking. Show some class.
8) It’s just not, okay?

I mean, that is a pizza though. Original Italian pizza was just bread and tomato, no cheese as they couldn't afford it and pizza was a poor laborer snack

And even in America, pizza once looked like this as some exotic foreign dish

Dear OP, how thick is tomato sauce usually and how much of it usually goes on top in relation to the (I'm assuming pretty thick) to focaccia-like bread base?

This is kind of odd one but in my country grandmas used to make macaroni with feta type cheese (100% cow, not the goat kind) with either honey or sugar. It was quite comfy.

thats neither a REAL Chicago style which is known elsewhere as "tavern pie" which is thin crust and cut in squares, nor is it the Chicago DEEP DISH. A tomato pie has no toppings.

Pan con tomate, or whatever you call it...
1) is not a new thing nor exclusive to Philly
2) exists in Italy, Spain, France...everywhere.

It’s a decent layer, definitely more than you’d find on a pizza. Also, the consistency is more like a tomato paste rather than your pizza sauce which is much more fluid. If I were to estimate, the layer of sauce would be maybe 1/3-1/2 the thickness of the bread.

Of course not, but the style, precise ingredients and how it’s served are unique to the area. Noodles in broth isn’t unique to a single place, but everywhere prepares them differently. Stop being an “ACKSHULLY” faggot.

I see that's what it's called in some region of America, here that same food item is widely known as Roma style pizza. In my opinion what it gets called hardly matters though, it's a tasty variation on the trope of a big flat piece of dough covered in tomatoes. In my house in the summer we usually make something pretty similar, but just use sliced fresh tomato as the base.

Eat it? What? It's a fashion accessory. You lift it to your mouth and dribble it all over your shirt. It's a must-have for Midwestern living, like a bolo tie in Texas or a vagina in Seattle.
