Having a home theater is only cool if you only watch kino, not if you constantly pump the audio/visual equivalent of goyslop into your eyes and ears. I was going to buy a projector and screen but my favorite movies are not even available on the abandoned 4K blu-ray format so I said fuck it. Also, you can make movie popcorn at home in a pot. The secret is adding a fuckload of butter flavored coconut oil and whatever that salty shit is to the pot.

I can watch any media I like. I have a giant NAS in the basement that can hold bluray rips and anything I can get my hands on plus live TV all for free through the internet. I can even watch questionable stuff where the kids screams vibrate through the sound dampening panels on the wall. I also have hone theater seating with a swivel tray so I can eat and drink whatever.

Nah... theaters are from the 80s and I am not going back to that time.

Just get one that supports 1080p and run it in 1080i to compensate for the fact that most movies and games don't produce more than 30 frames per second.

Have you ever watched certain movies or tv shows at 4k/24p, like the Star Trek remasters?
It's fucking painful during the scenes where the frame rate is something like 2 frames per second.

Unless I am mistaken since it's been a few years since I have looked at projectors, they are fine to use for traditional content. I'd never get one though. I want HDR and 120hz if needed in some video rendering I do.

You can never get the quality of an actual panel with a projector for a whole host of reasons. Granted, projectors are better than they use to be, but you can't be an actual panel.

Okay, look, Star Trek on its own is not necessarily bad. It's one of the better military shows that portray officers in a generally positive light, but the DVD releases, and some of the Bluray releases... they fucking suck ass.
Imagine the intro of Star Trek TNG, but now imagine the Enterprise jankily jerking around because instead of, I don't know, 24 frames per second, they used some weird capture device that can only display 2 frames per second. And when it was remastered, it STILL only displays at 2 frames per second!
You would think with all the money they spent on these things, they could have, at the very minimum, run it all through a 480i capable display and then upscale all of those 60 frames per second or something.

That's sad to hear but I didn't notice it so much on the blurays when I watched it long ago. I know all the special fx were edited in video and that made for a painful re-do of every special effect. Lemme let you in on a little secret, anon - they don't care.
The "no food" rule for theaters, 99 percent of the time, is just there so people don't bring in some shit curry or w/e that stinks up the whole room. That and food that's super sticky or really hard to clean up like taffy or caramel. Past that, only the most power-hungry hall monitor types would even raise a finger to stop you from bringing food in
