By salting by sight first and using a course salt. At least that's how I taught myself to salt properly. I prefer God's chosen salt, but fleur de sel is amazing although expensive. For a just about every meat/recipe, I salt a thin layer while making sure every square inch has at least one salt crystal. Then it becomes a game of pattern recognition as a result of repetition. Eventually I began to feel out how much salt is needed. Always remember, it's easier to add more salt than it is to remove it. Go light and taste taste.

Lastly, you're a gay for buying a "salt cellar' or whatever the fuck marketing you fell for. I have something similar: A monkey dish or an old cup that's just laying around. Do better, anon.
