My oven broke and replacement isnt in sight for now.
So now Im looking for recipe to use my enamelled castiron pot instead.
most potroast recipes I find call for it to be put in the oven. Are there special roast recipes for just a stovetop or can I just use any recipe as long as I take care some way?

while a dutch oven pot roast usually calls for it to go in the oven, doing it entirely on the stove top works as well. You just need to be cognizant of the temp inside the pot so you don't scorch the bottom, and you'll probably want to stir things every 10-20 minutes to try and help your meat cook more evenly.

The reason you put it in the oven is to regulate temperature and provide consistent heating from all sides, when you leave it on the stovetop you lose the consistent heat, and you lose the heat from all directions and end up only applying direct heat from the bottom.

So yeah, regular stirring and making sure you're not getting too hot on the bottom are key to try and do a pot roast wholly on the stovetop.

Is it true scrubbing my enameled cast iron pot with a steel scrub pad will ruin the coating? Or is this histrionics from the same people who say a drop of soap will ruin your cast iron?

Is enamel the same thing as seasoning?
Don't do what the manual says not to.

The steel can roughen up the enamel and truly do damage it. once isnt that bad, repeatedly is.
Same with those sponges that have corundum grains.
There are special plastic sponges with coarse, hard sides that are still soft enough to be used on enamle or teflon.
The good old natron+vinegar is still best when you truly mess up.

How did it break? If it's an electric coil style, they aren't very complicated. Even gas is simple. There's plenty of YouTube vids on how to fix them. Just because something breaks doesn't mean you need to buy a new one.

One thing I would add to that:
Bring it up to blistering heat with the lid on before putting anything in, then turn the heat down to minimum. Keeps warm for like 20 minutes with no issues. Then, bring it up to maximum and stir for a minute again before turning down again.
With gas, this is less of an issue. The direct contact of heat->metal->food is the biggest enemy.
I like putting roast meat on a bed of onions and potatoes. They create distance to the meat and are less in danger of drying out.

Use a rack. Weight on the lid. Turn the loaf/meal when set. Also, get pic related and make smaller portions in half the time. I just got a new one and moved my old one (13 yrs old - good Japanese quality) to my gf's house. $130 on Amazon when on sale or sometimes have a coupon.

Im not familiar with "rack" for castiron pots unless you mean like shelves to put it on.
Also, what is pic related? A microwave? I already have a microwave but most stuff doesnt fit in there.
