American fast food can't compete in places with food vendors at every corner. So they have to step up their game. Whereas in America, burger restaurants first proliferated in rural areas before entering the cities, and only as hot dog/etc vendors were regulated out of existence.

in the US, fried chicken is "for the blacks" and thus seen as an unmentionable, low class food for miserable people to eat when they are trapped in the inner city aka the ghetto. it's why korean fried chicken took off so fast, see it turns out people like fried chicken but are terrified of being seen eating a "black food" so if you delete the black face and instead stick a nonthreatening k-pop face next to it, much like the ACA vs obamacare these neanderthals will suddenly welcome it because you bypassed their tribal blood feud heuristics
