what do asians mix into rice for an easy snack?
gimme tips

I tried soy sauce, douchi, and black bean garlic sauce but they're all very salty so I could only put a little bit and it wasn't that good

Butter and soy sauce is an awesome combo. Sounds kinda weird but it works. The richness of the butter and the salty acidity of the soy sauce really play off each other well.

it's a mild faux pas because rice typically isn't eaten on its own in Asia. it's eaten as an accompaniment to other dishes, and is supposed to be mild to balance against the stronger flavours of what you pair it with. so putting soy sauce on plain rice is like saying your other dishes aren't flavourful enough, or that you aren't serving the rice with anything (aka you're poor).
it's not entirely taboo though, it's like the eastern equivalent of eating your food with ketchup, it might be considered childish in certain contexts but for the most part nobody really gives a shit.
and there are lots of dishes that do incorporate soy sauce and rice, like the soy+butter rice is a legit thing. it's more specifically plain rice and soy that is seen as a bit weird. but again, not majorly so.

It's very weird to eat rice as a snack. You are supposed to eat a small bowl of rice(300kcal) three times a day with various pickled wildgrass and maybe a miso soup if you are a weeb. And please, do you really need you furikake/Gim/soy sauce/gochujang/melted butter over your rice? All these rice substitutes are like a fairybread, you are supposed to make them only as a treat for a children's birthday party. Adults here think pouring cool water over your rice is "pig-like" behavior.

I'm on the edge of Asia, does that count? I like putting leftover meat like pulled pork, chopped chicken thighs or lamb roast straight from the fridge at the bottom of a bowl, then put the rice on top and mix. The heat of rice warms up the meat and loosens the fat and juices which flavours the rice further. Yes yes I said the thing but that's how it actually works.

Rice
Steamer bag of frozen vegetables and microplastics
Teriyaki sauce or pic related

I eat that like 3-4 days a week for lunch. I usually have some roasted or stir fried vegetables in the fridge that I'll use instead of frozen but the frozen are serviceable.

I did go full retard one day. I wanted some protein and a change of pace so instead of teriyaki sauce I used an old bottle of sweet and sour sauce I had in the fridge, for veggies I used frozen broccoli, then I heated up some frozen chicken nuggets and chopped them up. It wasn't as bad as it sounded but I'm still not proud of that. Actually fuck that, I made sweet and sour chicken in 10 minutes, Chinese restaurant not even make it that fast, fuck you.

It's probably a far more common piece of knowledge than one might think. Anyone who has studied Japanese will at some point have run into the fact that characters will render by default as the Chinese version due to unicode fuckery. Anyway what I was getting at originally was that the product is designed to look Japanese but there is no way it could actually have been made there. I don't think the error in the kanji would have passed by unoticed by a native speaker.

why the fuck are retards always putting soy sauce on white rice? you only add it as an ingredient if you're making fried rice or whatever.

to answer your question: you add (thick) sauces, jams, chilies, dried mini seafood (anchovies, salted/dried fish, mini-shrimps, mini-prawns), egg (any variant), tofu (not plain), sesame seeds, seaweed, mushrooms, spam (diced, grilled, unironically), green onions, seasoned ground meat + de-thawed frozen peas & carrots, and bean sprouts if you're a faggot

md5: 9a1b768e2bf6b61e949a9ce79ab66d0a๐Ÿ”
>serundeng

It's some form of cooked grated coconut mixed in with spices, if you look up recipes there's tons of variants that will either change up the spice mix or add some grated meat or shrimp in it. Great to just sprinkle on whatever rice you're eating but the ultimate snack form is using it in ketan serundeng, which is just sticky rice rolled in the stuff. Really tasty, last a long time if stored in a dry place, can be applied to any number or rice based meals and snacks, it was a staple in my mom's kitchen growing up. I've heard there are a lot of Indo people in the states, if you ever come across it I highly recommend giving it a try.

I miss Indonesian food so much. Every morning I would get Nasi Sayur from the local stall, and Ibu had a tray of crumbs that had fallen off the fried chicken. She would garnish the rice with serundeng, peanuts, fried anchovies, fried tempeh and a handful of chicken crumbs. Mixed all together with sambal, telur balado and broken keropok.... It was a *textural* masterpiece. Every morning I nearly cried with how perfect my breakfast was.

I miss streets stalls the most out of everything in Indo, I'm lucky enough that my mom still makes us this kind of food from time to time but she's been westernized mostly. My best memories from childhood summers in indonesia almost all involve food, sadly a lot of the places I went to regularly have gone out of business as they were situated along the Puncak pass next to Bandung and the new tunnel killed traffic on the old road.

lmao I was never anything but western, my mother is indo but I've never lived there only went once every two summers for three months each time. Indo genes are weak, the only thing I got from my maa is curly hair and a big nose, when we went to pasar as a kid I had to stay behind or the vendors would up their prices seeing a white kid lmao.
I can understand the language ok but I can't speak it because I haven't been there in 15 years. When my mom dies I think I'll forget what little I have left, although I do surprise myself understanding most of what is said in what indo movies I've seen.
>And you're not?
I've asked myself this many times growing up, what does your ancestry and the culture linked to it matter if you never truly connected with it, besides indo food I don't really have much of connection with the country, random people I've met who went there for tourism regularly exhibit more knowledge of the country than I do. I wish I felt more at home there but all I remember growing up was being the only white kid around for miles and other kids following me all the time lol. Maybe it'd be different to go back as an adult.

The thing you might think about is that if you have an entree where the meat or vegetables are saucy then the sauce will be salty enough that you don't need more. So if you dump a ton of soy sauce on the rice before you even mix it with the other dish they will think you're retarded. It's like dumping a ton of salt, ketchup or hot sauce on food without even tasting it first.
