because you're at an airport or some other retarded place where they markup the food 100% because they have a captive consumer base. waddle down to the mcd's and take a picture of that menu too.

its the dying scream of a dying chain that has lost relevance. mark my words in the next decade jimmy johns will take over and subway will be a thing of the past. they have already opened up like 3 in my area recently and a bunch of subways have shut down.

All fast food is expensive which makes it not worth it now. It was always unhealthy slop that won't blow you away flavour wise but the appeal was it was cheap and quick. Now they're not cheap, and they take forever as the outlets now have to deal with making orders for delivery at the same time, doubling the work load with now half the shift workers they had 10 years ago.

So yeah, fast food isn't worth it, may as well get something decent for the same price.

They're at the stage of corporate businesses where admin, mangement and HR costs are more than actual product costs. So suddenly your sandwitch costs double because HR women, fat incompetent balding middle management and "sorry we don't have enough chairs" admin have to raise their families
Only an organisational culling can save them now

subway has always been disgusting and im 33. even in its heyday in the 2000s, it always tasted like shit, shitty bread with a shit ton of shitty vegetables to cover up the lack of meat. always liked quiznos infinitely more. and now with chains like jimmy johns and jersey mikes, i like them way more than i ever liked subway too. never understood how it got so popular.

Two reasons:
1. Bidenflation
2. Private Equity owners trying to squeeze last bits of profit from chain before it's eventual death.

The 2nd is why fast food in general is up compared to the market. Private equity is trying to squeeze as much profit out of the chains before the chains go tits up thanks to private equity fucking everyone over.

All fast food got more expensive at an accelerated rate in the past 5 years due to the mass-adoption of delivery apps (Doordash, GrubHub, etc.)
The apps charge a percentage of all food sales delivered through them, so companies had to increase their prices to maintain their margins.
And they're contractually barred from charging differently through the apps than in store, so even if you walk inside or go through the Drive-Thru, you're subsidizing the Silicon Valley rentseekers.

The last time I went to Jimmy John's was when they had the yearly free sandwich day (I wouldn't have been older then about 25), and it wasn't worth much more than what they charged me. For me, it's either Potbelly or Firehouse.

"private equity" is a name for specific kind of "investors" that keep buying up companies, cutting costs, loading them up with debt and then dumping them to crash and burn
