they were frozen strawberries. normally with fresh I would slice them thinly and simmer, but the frozen ones were bigger chunx.

You can just toss fresh strawberries in sugar and let them break down into syrup for a few hours or overnight and that's quite delicious, but simmering makes a good sauce too
