I have a theory that sweet things were way more prized by older people, because my 70+ year old parents love anything sweet, including preferring miracle whip to mayo, and then a lot of us who grew up with parents that age always had an abundance of sweet stuff like it was a luxury, which made us not like it as much through over exposure

1933: Hitler was rising, Miracle Whip was invented. Coincidence?
This tangy mayo-impersonator was made for people who couldn’t afford real ingredients.

Too bad that Miracle Whip sucks, compared to the way it used to be. It's not as tangy, but there's also some weird chemical aftertaste that I can't figure out, that definitely was NOT there, twenty years ago.

It smells and tastes like spoiled mayonnaise. Some people like that smell and taste. Not me! My wife tries to talk me into liking it but I say NO! I don’t know why she wants me to like it so much.

Boiled dressing is a type of creamy salad dressing of English and German origin that was especially popular in the 19th century and early 20th century as an alternative to mayonnaise, which is of French origin.[1] Boiled dressing is easier for less skilled cooks to make from scratch, and liquid food oils needed to make mayonnaise were not readily available in Northern Europe and the United States in the 19th century.[2] Mayonnaise was not available for retail purchase until 1912

were they really too retarded to shake eggs and oil in the same container?

very accurate from my experience. Every day after school it was a poptart or a honeybun.... every meal had "a pinch of sugar" as a "secret ingredient"... I would have killed for some beef jerkey or little veggie spreads. I loved salads and they always refused to make them. Oh you're hungry? There's some oreos in the pantry... What do you mean you don't want em....

Yeah I would tell my parents I didn't want cupcakes and wanted some fruit and they acted like I was trying to be a peasant or something, just a different mentality
