Vegas is great if you are an ultra wealthy boomer consumer who wants access to anything at any time 24/7. Otherwise, it's a total shithole full of lowlifes. I lived there for a year and I couldn't stand it. Those casinos are glorified nursing homes at this point and are depressing to even go into. It's not even like back in the day where you got free booze, food and good comps. They aren't giving away shit anymore unless you are spending big time money and the people that are, don't care about the free shit anyway.

For most of its life Las Vegas was an outpost bordertown for Californians looking to gamble and fuck hookers. There were shitty old pop stars who seemed to be fulfilling Faustian bargains.
Then they slowly became more of a family/event center. Between Mormon Families taking a pitstop between Salt Lake and SoCal and Military/Government needs bringing in an educated Middle Class that wasn't wont for Gambling, Cigars and some sub-Sinatra alcoholic pill popper on the stage playing oldies like a wrinkled coke nosed puppet.
Now that gambling is legal anywhere they have fully developed into a place you can take your kids.
No more free buffets, now you're in a perpetual event economy. It's like Midtown Manhattan or Hollywood or any other tourist destination or stadium.

I went there for a week for a bachelor party trip the best times when we drove through the desert in a convertible and just driving to random small towns. A Navy Seal who owned a bar took us to a private mine he owned in his backyard. In retrospect he could have killed us and no one would know but we were shitfaced and didn't care
