Hey co/ck/heads,

Deciding if I should get an airfryer or not. Somthing seems pleb about them though or somthing that fat poors use but everyone swears by them.
Are they actually good?

They're somewhat overhyped but they're actually pretty good. I thought like you until I actually tried using it. It's not gonna change your life or anything, but for heating up frozen shit it's good.
I don't have a standalone air fryer though, I have a toaster oven with an air fry function. Which imo is a lot more versatile. I'm not sure if I'd dedicate counter space to just an air fryer. But that's just me.

If your oven has a fan then an air fryer provides zero extra utility compared to cooking directly on the racks besides the fact that it takes less time to preheat. It's also much worse at frying anything with batter or a flour-like coating than deep frying. One of my roommates in college got one and its sole use was to reheat leftover fries and chicken tenders

They are good and functional.
I used to cook a ribeye in one.
Watch out for:

>materials used in some air fryers, particularly older models that may contain non-stick coatings like Teflon. When heated to high temperatures, these coatings can release harmful chemicals such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)

many cooklets use air fryers, but it's still a useful and convenient kitchen appliance.
if something fits in my air fryer, I'm not going to heat up my large oven

If you have the space and the money get a quality convection oven. If you rent get an air fryer. The only difference between the two is an air fryer has less space and heats up slightly faster.

Moved into a micro apartment recently where the functional kitchen area is the size of a sink
afraid the air fryer is my only choice

What's the difference from an oven in the air setting? I don't see the point in having one.

They are terrible for cooking family meals and great for a single person.

Instead of heating a cubic meter of air or something, you just heat 4lt of it, and instead of bending down to wash it or whatever, you can usually toss the little drawer they have into a sink or dishwasher.

Its like saying why are electric kettles a thing when technically a house's water boiler makes "hot water" too.

(The only think that autistically trolls me is why the flying, well glazed,, fuck the "frying" label was attached to them in the first place.

A logical society would just call all these convection overns that simply come in "micro" or "large" sizes)

Yes. The only foods they can cook are slop, and the invention of such caters strictly to sloppist sensibilities.

fyi, the people who are telling you that it is the same as a convection oven are midwits. air fryers are simply much more powerful than any convection oven, and that has an effect on the result. it's like saying that a gas stove is the same as a lighter.

I have a ninja air fryer oven. It's great because it does all the air frier things but also handles 99% of oven tasks as well. The 1% of tasks it can't do are mainly getting a very hard pie or cookie crust, which I dont do much because it hurts my teeth.
