A lot of mfs are going to Japan lately and I see a lot of them chasing after tourist-trap slop places that sell goy-inspired western dishes as opposed to them going out and choosing places that sell authentic traditional Japanese cuisine. What's wrong with these people? Why visit a place if you seemingly don't want to engage in or respect their culture?
This applies to everywhere.

You don't have to choose one or the other, it's fun to see what other cultures think your food is
If you go to Japan, take one meal to go to one of the AMERICA HAMBAGA YEAH! theme restaurants and get their COWBOY CORRAL BACON burger, just for the experience
It was fun having the worst Mexican food in my life while I was in Edinburgh, and when I was in Italy, I surprisingly got some of the best Chinese food in my life, loaded with authentic Sichuan peppercorn.

I will always regret being in Spain and not eating at a random Tex-Mex restaurant we found. It would have been such a good story.

I got a couple pizzas in japan, one japanese dominos, one from a Kyoto spot run by these Japanese girls, and one "authentic Italian" place when we were sick of the Asian food. Dominos was standard, but those little Kyoto girls made by far the best pizza, much better than the shitty Italian transplant, who gave us a burnt, soggy in the middle uncut disc you could pour the unsettled tomato water off of. If that's authentic, authentic is shit.

This, OP. In theory you sound correct, but you are likely just personally untraveled, inexperienced enough, slightly jealous and just justifying those facts.

It's akin to going to PF changs for chinese food in the US, where you know the clientele wants white meat chicken, not thighs or chicken feet. Is it better, quite possibly, it's more like it's elevated and thoughtfully not offensive. You won't get a homemade soup dumpling with gelatin rich stock, but you'll enjoy your evening, especially if you pounded the pavement on your feet as a tourist all day. Or, it's like going to Mexico City and dining at Pujol or some other Michelin starred place, and thinking locals would even want to eat ant eggs anymore, or ancient grains. with foam on top and a housemade cocktail. When you dine well in other countries, you have to consider your own mood and mood of your dining companions and your own culture's standards, too. If you visit a country like Costa Rica, you'll just want something different occasionally. There is only so much traditional food a sane human can do 3 meals a day.

The real question is what’s the point in being a tourist? Spending 2 weeks in another country is pointless as shit. If you’re not going to live there for any serious amount of time what’s the point?
