If you’re burning it in a pan then it’s a skill issue. You’ll definitely burn it in this since you can’t control the heat.

ok so turn the heat down? or flip it sooner? insane that you think you need a fancy appliance to make a very simple thing

no, i use a toaster. but the OP was about tortillas so lets discuss those. im not trying to be a dick but there are tons of appliances that sell because people lack basic cooking skills. heating a tortilla, which i assume is being used for a quesadilla or burrito, in a pan is very simple. throw down some oil over medium heat, put it in and let it do its thing. you can lift it periodically to make sure youre not burning it. again, this is very basic stuff.

i am legitimately confused as to what youre talking about. you want the insides cooked without risk of burning the outside? do you have a microwave?

You need a little bit of oil or butter to avoid burning bread in one of these.

you can omit the oil if you think you need to. the point was you should be able to heat it in a pan without burning it. what are you putting in it? fill it with hot freshly cooked ingredients and it will turn out fine. or spend money on a meme appliance that will do the exact same thing.

I bought an electric panini press like this for $5 at a high end Naples church thrift store, and actually really love it. I do a pressed cuban sandwich in mine, mostly. It's also great for 2nd day leftovers all smashed in there.

For a quesadilla though, ehh, just turn your burner down, use oil, add patience.

I prefer the flat panini presses because they’re not a hassle to clean.
But yes, they’re legit, they stick well beneath the smoke point of bread so you get a perfect toast every time, and faster.
