What's the point of extra sauce on a pizza? Most of the time it just makes it taste soggy.

in my experience this is more from overeating in general rather than eating anything acidic. i can eat nothing but acidic fruits and feel fine but i'll get heartburn if i overeat food that isn't acidic.

Sauce on pizza is great, and can take may forms. For example, the thousand island dressing on this "big mac" pizza, or ranch dressing on a buffalo chicken pizza.

I like having some pizza with my sauce.

We do that in Norway, it unironically tastes great. But only for what we call "dinner pizza" which is a thicker dough, minced beef in a tomato meat sauce, cheese and then toppings like onion and maybe tomato, with a side salad, and you eat it with utensils.
Would never put it on traditional pizza that you eat with your hands though, don't put any condiments on that
