Hey /ck/, I have to save a wine bottle.
I work at a liquor store, guy comes in about getting a refund on a 1995 vintage port, since the cork broke on him while trying to open it.
I know it's as simple as pulling the cork and pouring it through a coffee filter, but my boss is out till Monday and wants me to put it aside for him.
I already wrapped it in cling film and stuck it in the darkest part of the walk-in, is there any way to ensure it survives the next 2 days?

push another cork in
should be fine though, can you clarify what your boss plans on doing with the wine? does he want it for himself, or just to decide whether or not to award the refund?

His process is usually investigating first, I don't think he wants to take it, but I certainly do, a heavily marked down bottle of vintage port is a great and convenient gift for my father's birthday coming up

If it was ruby or tawny I'd have no worries, but I've heard with a vintage they don't last long opened. This guy's been bottled for 30 years, it would be a damn shame to waste.

the best way is to pull the oxygen out and seal it. if you seal it and don't shake it then it will not spoil as fast

take it out of the walk-in. if the cork is still sealing the wine inside, just leave the busted cork in the bottle and put somewhere in a dark cupboard.

Yes the corks on old port bottles tend to crumble, that's why people use pic related to burn the tops off the bottle instead of going through the cork. Your customer goofed hard by trying it the normal way, why would he be entitled to a refund because of that?

also this, retard not knowing how to open a bottle isn't a reason for a refund. you should check to see they didn't coravin the bottle.

It’s a fortified wine. It will last forever if the seal is still intact and you take it out the wall-in
