Although I did watch some of those cake shows and frankly the sheer number of hours they spend handling the cake and moulding the fondant with bare hands is pretty off-putting. Like okay if you wash your hands you can quickly touch some food without gloves, but hours of massaging your own sebum into someone's food is a but much for me

At most bakeries and cake shops, there are many low level grunts who can make exact copies of all the basic baked goods. They can make the same exact bread or pastry or cake every single time with almost no taste variation but there is only a single more experienced employee who can make specialty cakes or more complex baked goods

They're in the eyes of the beholder and the creator. Someone was inspired to do something individually meaningful, and in most cases, something surprising that they got right. What's not to like?
I think the Groom's cake at my wedding was pretty spot on, and it made him happy, which was the point. Referencing something really obscure, that you actually get, is part of the best comedian's routines. If it makes sense to you, you'll have a good time. If it goes over your head, then it simply wasn't meant for you.

The wedding cake was very moist and had rum in it, and had a passion fruit layer, so it was best, but the groom's cake was chocolate and had a great decoration for his interests. My parents didn't get it, but that's the point, a very inside joke..
