With the right seasoning for each dish, you don't need any salt. Most people have been tricked into thinking they need to have salt with every dish. That is not the case. It torches every dish into a sodium pastiche.

To say nothing of its affect on health. People didn't eat salt for hundreds of thousands of years. Salters are no better than nor functionally different to drug addicts.

If you want to eat salt, go dab your finger in the salt cellar you keep by your bed. Leave it out of my food.

we need sodium and a lot of plant foods contain little to none. some studies show that the healthiest people consume a bit more sodium than what is recommended as the current limit.

OP is a mentally ill retard with autism who heard somewhere that salt is bad so it has to be cut from diet and he will not except anything less than the complete removal of salt because the 'tism only lets it think in black and white, and if salt is bad then it's bad in any form and the most optimal way to not be bad is to cut all of it.

Of course OP is fucking retarded and salt is good for you, and you need to consume more salt. It making food taste good is just a bonus. Salt will make nearly anything better and there is no reason to not add some.

>People didn't eat salt for hundreds of thousands of years.
Are you retarded or is this just a bait thread?
>Early Neolithic salt production, dating to approximately 6,000 BCE, has been identified at an excavation in Poiana Slatinei-Lunca, Romania.[6]
>Solnitsata, the earliest known town in Europe, was built around a salt production facility. Located in present-day Bulgaria, the town is thought by archaeologists to have accumulated wealth by supplying salt throughout the Balkans.[7]
>Salt was of high value to the Greeks, Tamils, Chinese, Hittites[8] and other peoples of antiquity. In the early years of the Roman Republic, with the growth of the city of Rome, roads were built to make transportation of salt to the capital city easier. An example was the Via Salaria (originally a Sabine trail), leading from Rome to the Adriatic Sea. The Adriatic, having a higher salinity due to its shallow depth, had more productive solar ponds than the Tyrrhenian Sea, much closer to Rome. The word "salary" comes from the Latin word for salt.

Aside from all of that sodium is an essential mineral for humans, we can't survive without it.
It is elemental to ensure neuron function, a lack of sodium can lead to spasms or paralysis.

Im reminded of that Russian family that fled the Communist revolution because they were devout Orthodox and wound up living out in the middle of nowhere in Siberia for so long that the family developed a unique Russian dialect.
One of the first things the father of the family asked for when contacted by the outside world was salt, since it was very rare to come by out in the wilderness. He called not having access to salt "true torture".
So, yet another reason why OP is an idiot

>No, they were iodine deficient which is why they were craving salt
Uhhhh, iodine was [artifically] added to salt to make it a daily part of the diet too. People who didn't live near the sea could be very deficient. It was government mandates. It remains government guidelines to supplement grain for feeding to get it into dairy and eggs, too.

I doubt your palate and brain knew it was in the salt supply. Most refined palates can detect it in table salt and actually don't care for it.

Why was it mandated? Truly stupid and lethargic people, that's why. It was because the low iodine in the diet lowered IQ and gave developmental disabilities, and the goiters were ridiculously common to be seen on a majority of the population. There were places with like more than 50% of the population with visible goiters. People who did nasty foods like bacalao, tinned fishes, or ate seaweed were protected. To this day people actually like squeeze anchovies and cod roe pastes, but children used to be forced to down cod liver oil, by their mothers by the tablespoon and not just as punishment.

Lewis Kitchener Dahl salt study on rats in 1962 fed his rats the equivalent of a human eating 280g of salt a day. Lewis was repulsed by people who added salt to their food, and thought that food never needed salt. Because of this his studies are suspect. Every study since then has been contradictory or often biased.

supposedly eating salt gives you high blood pressure. but if you have unusually low blood pressure, eating lots of salt WILL NOT raise your blood pressure.

many people have a huge money stake in low salt diets.

to derails OP's thread, I believe salt to be healthy. Hear me out:
>I assume that you are otherwise lean and healthy
>I assume you consume enough potassium (put it the bag)
>I assume you move about a lot (there is the pump)
true, if you are fat (protip: 22 BMI is fat most likely), have a sedentary lifestyle, and consume lots of salt with each meal, you will have a constant effect of high pressure in your vains. However, if you have the body I already mentioned, intermittent high blood pressure actually helps getting a pump during the training, this pump will also help getting the blood pressure down for the rest of the day. If you have a high potassium, your body will stabilize sodium/potassium ratio pretty fast, the rest will be expelled with your piss.

A lot of people lived near coasts so they had access to seafood and saltwater or they ate more animal products which naturally have more sodium.

If you eat more plant foods you have to supplement some salt though. Even herbivore animals will seek out salt because most plants provide very little. Unless you were eating a lot of seaweed or something.

Hunter-gatherers who don't use salt seem to consume 1-2g per day at the most. The average person in the US at least is consuming a bit more than that but it's not really a hugely excessive amount more. It's probably low on the list of things that are actually killing us.
