did these people just see that TLC episode from like 2008 and decide to do the same thing for attention or is there something with black women having pica? maybe its just an expression of living miserable lives. i knew a girl who would hold cornstarch in her mouth so the enzymes in her saliva would begin to break down the long carbohydrates into simpler sugars and it would taste sweet, was mental. chew gum, have a fruit drop, fuck is this behavior

Women need over twice as much iron as men, but women typically consume less meat. It's hard to hit that RDA unless you're eating only high iron foods. It might be an issue of lack of proper medical care or just not being inclined to use iron supplements.

Meat isn't even really that great of a source of iron. Blood is the best and a small amount will put you way over the RDA but it's not typically consumed in the US. And you need consistent high intake to reverse iron deficiency properly.

It could even be that they don't use the form of iron in plants very well too which is something that is being studied more lately. Some people are better than others at converting beta carotene from plants into usable vitamin A, ALA omega 3 into EPA/DHA, etc. so it wouldn't surprise me if similar things happen with iron.

because the diet of poor black is abysmal combined with a distrust of society that makes them less likely to see a doctor. poor black people are seriously out there living off of cereal, fast food, spam, and ramen. And when they cook as home it's just to deep fry or cook some greens in a gallon of butter.

Every time a study is done on why black people are more prone to disease it almost always comes back as a behavior issue which we quickly blame on poverty and "food deserts" or whatever. desu I understand the distrust of white people in authority but that's not a good reason to ignore medicine and eat as unhealthy as you possibly can out of spite.

This is also why a lot of black people think veganism/vegetarianism is some super secret bio electric high vibration melanin synthesis system of life balance. When they quit the awful diet they've eaten all their lives and eat real vegetables and real food for once, the weight melts off and they reverse a lot of the diet related illness they were suffering from. African Americans are one of the few populations I think would greatly benefit from going vegetarian. And real vegetarian food, not the junk food Slutty Vegan type deep fried formed plant protein covered in sauces and salts.

It's technically not pica because starch is food, but it's still mostly lacking nutritional value so craving it that strongly is unusual. Especially since it's not really that pleasant to just eat starch like this. It might not be pica but it's still a very common symptom of a nutritional deficiency.
