Is there any reason why saltine crackers can't replace bread as your staple food? It's literally the same ingredients, but it has the advantage of not going stale.

Buy flour and make a starter, its just flour and water.
You can make sourdough crackers easily, just make a very wet dough and spread it thin; add salt or get as fancy as you want with herbs.
