I can't figure out how to use this piece of shit in any kind of useful capacity. Every cooking show says its better to broil shit like chicken breasts instead of baking them because the flavor is better, but all that happens is my house becomes smokey as shit when grease hits the hot element. Also the pan-drippings always dry really fast and then start burning before the meat is done, causing yet more smoke that also smells like shit.

Am I just doing it wrong or something? Every recipe just says to lightly oil, put onto baking tray and then put under broiler with the oven rack on the highest position. All that happens is it just burns the fuck out of everything or starts smoking and I have to stop it. What the fuck am I supposed to do?

Too close to the element.
Use a lower position

1. use an actual broiler pan that catches drippings
2. stop overcooking your food

If you cooked your food in a frying pan and saw "oh no, the food is burned and the pan has started smoking!" what would you do? Its the same shit.

Broiler pan
put water in the pan to catch the dripping and prevent them from burning
lower the oven rack

Yeah but grills are outside so if it gets too hot it's not making all of my smoke alarms go off

If you take the top off a broiler pan its just a regular baking tray, so not really.

bro just think a bit harder. since grills are outside, how do you get your broiler to vent smoke outside? you're probably fucked if you're in an apartment though

Wait until what you are cooking is nearly done.
Turn on broiler for 5 minutes. Don't use oil, that will definitely burn.

Works for nachos.
Finishing ribs you slow cooked after pouring off the fat (to be used or not).

Stupid prior home owners did not vent the over-oven vent outside. As a result, I do nothing in the kitchen that could smoke. That includes broiling. I don't ever need it though, since I have grills and smokers outside.

You don't need an actual broiler pan. There are ways to broil without one but I figured you're too stupid to make a broiler pan from things you already have.
