I threw up after eating seafood fried rice with a TON of black pepper in it. I can eat fried rice fine but anything with black pepper makes me queasy now

You essentially got poisoned by having too much so now your body reacts like it's poison all the time. You can probably reset it and start to tolerate it a bit more again if you start having very small amounts and letting your body adjust and realize you're not going to get poisoned.

McDonald's. I've told the story here a few times and I'm sure it wasn't the food itself that made me sick but I didn't eat McDonald's again for decades after.

Took me about 10 years to not shudder at the look, or even the scent of vodka. I just kept trying to sip a cocktail with it, and just could not the moment it hit my nose. I gave away a ton of unlimited Blood Mary bar offers. The brain remembers. I'm mostly over it now.

I know another friend who had the same reaction after upchucking from overindulging on alcohol, but the earlier dinner had been chicken from Chicken Kitchen w/mustard curry sauce. No more curriy anything to this day.

I did this after a decade of not drinking milk. Now I drink milk with every meal I prepare and eat at home. I even drink milk at social gatherings when I don't want to drink alcohol.

Seafood allergy is a thing. Where I live people explain it away as "I ate a bad oyster or mussel" - but that's not what happens. Basically our immune system is able to detect seafood and for some unknown reason it'll start treating it like it's a disease. What's making you feel sick is your immune system overreacting to something that's completely harmless. It can be lethal, and you can't get your immune system to learn that it's harmless (yet). Once it's triggered, it stays triggered for life, so be very careful.

Same thing can happen with perfectly edible mushrooms, btw. It's rare, but it exists.

Happened to my uncle
He was young and ate some halwa, but was then attacked by a swarm of wasps. The wasp stings caused an allergy attack which made him vomit all the halwa.
He can't eat halwa now because of the trauma

I'm not very sensitive to induced aversions (have been sick many times without being put off any of the foods I ate). However, when I was 9 I had a terrible stomach flu that had me vomiting every couple hours for nearly a week. For the duration I ate cinnamon candies as I found they soothed my nausea and sore throat. I haven't much liked cinnamon since. The aversion has faded over time, but I still prefer nutmeg or allspice where a warm spice is called for.

I had some bad Oysters Rockefeller one time, and for the next ten years I avoided oysters because I thought I had a seafood allergy. Finally screwed up the courage to try some raw oysters to see if it was true or not. Turns out I'm not allergic; I can eat oysters just fine.

I had some undercooked scrambled eggs with diced ham once, and now I feel sick if I'm trying to eat eggs that's anywhere less than well-done, or eggs with anything mixed into them. The one exception is if I've cooked them myself, because this removes any uncertainty of doneness and thus whatever weird psychological block I've got.

I made Hong Shao Rou when I had covid and I ended up vomiting it all out because I forced myself to eat it since I spent money on the pork belly and wanted to spite myself despite having no appetite
I remember tasting it as it came back out and filled with the bath with vomit, all the flavours, the ginger, the cinnamon, the sichuan peppers and the dried chillies, etc and the aftertaste too
Anyway I can still eat it now but I leave the dried chillies out because it reminds me of that slightly spicy vomit too much
