The cut existed during a time when Subway was less dogshit and more worth the price they asked of you. People think of the old cut because the chain was better when the old cut was a thing. The old cut in current day's sandwiches and prices would still be massively worse than the new cut on their older sandwiches and prices.

It wasn't a V. It was known as a U-Gouge. Source: I read the training posters back in the day while waiting for a sandwich at Subway. The toppings for the sandwich stayed in better, especially for sloppy shit like a meatball sub.

I forgot this was a thing way back when. I remember hating it, since it got sogged out and wet. It felt like a trick to make the inside look better but was simply dumb.
I can count on two fingers how many times I've had a Subway sub in the last 15 years. they were never that awesome, and the franchisees were only interested in being cheap as shit. Extra tomato or extra cucumber might get you 1 slice more, amiright? Oh, I see they still do that shit. Confirmed, yet again, to to elsewhere. They they were associated with the creepy Jared.
