Paprika goes off fairly quickly compared to other dried spices, so if you haven't used up the bag/tin after a maximum of one to two months (depending on container size), it won't have much aroma left. You can still use it as coloring, but the red bell pepper flavor mentioned by anon >>21453019 will be completely gone.

Exactly this. Paprika has a shelf life of about 1-2 months, much shorter than other cabinet spice staples. Just buy it when you need it and use it liberally, don't hold onto it.
I also heard that putting it in the freezer will make it last longer if you don't use it often.
