Those homefries look like the ones I make, I fry them in olive oil in a cast iron skillet. I recently started covering the skillet while they cook so they come out tender, steams em a bit.
Good choice slicing the hot dog in half and scoring it; hot dogs suck but you can make the best with what you have.
