Tonight I cooked a spaghetti sauce but it turned out to smell and taste exactly like a crab boil (particularly, it tasted and smelled like Old Bay). What the fuck happened?
The recipe:
Ground beef
Fresh Onion
Fresh Garlic
Fresh Thyme
Fresh Rosemary
Worcestershire
Apple Cyder Vinegar
Red pepper flakes
Crushed tomato
Tomato paste
1 fresh tomato
Yellow onions
S&P
Baking Soda (to cut the acidity of the tomatoes)
I just don't understand how these ingredients could produce the smell/taste of old bay or a crab boil. Did I accidentally stumble upon the old bay recipe?

I'm betting on baking soda or Worcestershire sauce. Next time, try a real spaghetti sauce recipe.

I've used Worcestershire in the past without this affect, so the only thing left is baking soda. But i have trouble understanding how baking soda could turn a typical spaghetti sauce into an old bay like recipe by itself

Never had a crab boil before TBQVH, but I bet it was at least one of those things that do not under any foreseeable circumstances belong in spaghetti sauce, namely
>Fresh Rosemary
>Worcestershire
>Apple Cider Vinegar
>Baking Soda

P. S. You do not have to "cut the acidity of the tomatoes", that is a meme.

P. P. S. What the actual fuck were you thinking adding a redundant acidic ingredient and then adding another one just to reduce the acidity?

Why shouldn't I include those ingredients? In the past, they all have added a good flavor to my sauce. Idk about the acidity and baking soda. That was a thing I saw online that I thought I'd try.

I assume you mean apple cyder vinegar. Idk, I usually add it to my chicken and dumplings and it makes a big difference. I thought it might help with the spaghetti sauce.

Prob put too much worcestershire (sugar), and the baking soda cut the acidity so you taste the sugar even more.
