Wtf?

The notches on the pint glass so you can interlock them to carry more is genius tbqh, Norf scientists must have worked tirelessly on it.

Does the UK have a bunch of new craft breweries, as in breweries founded within the last thirty years? I'm a yank and I've always been under the impression that the brewing scene in Europe is dominated by old breweries that make good beer so there's not much reason to open new small craft breweries like we have in the US.

Yes, though our idea of "craft" I think is different to yours since it's more like a rediscovery of traditional British styles which nearly went extinct I believe in the 70s. Our biggest national pub chain, Wetherspoons, will always have at least 5 varieties of local beers and they're often cheaper than the macro lagers. Actually, they do a yearly "festival" where for a week they'll rotate various beers from all over the country, it's pretty great. Overall, the scene seems pretty healthy to me.

I genuinely don't understand why /ck/ even bothers discussing beer. It always goes the same way:
>person 1: I like [generic lager]
>person 2: [generic lager] is piss

I'm a pretty seasoned beer drinker, mostly drinking ales, but this weird snobbery around beer is so weird. A nice cold lager can be refreshing on a hot day. That being said, I do prefer the crisp, fruity notes and bolder flavour of a nice golden ale. As for Carling, it's not something I'd ever order, but I'd happily drink it without complaining. I guess for us it fills the same role as a 'lite' beer does for Americans.

Aye but lad I'd rather drink Stella or something before Carling.

Like I'm going for the Moretti or Estrella or whatever first, then the Stella or San Miguel, then literal dog piss before Carling.

I would pick it over Carlsberg or the "Bud Lite" that's being pushed over here now though.

There's only one lager I genuinely hate and it's Kronenbourg. Don't know why but it tasted undrinkable to me. I genuinely avoid all French beers for that reason.

Whoa. I had a vague UK origin story in my head. Funny that one of our cheapest rye whiskies, Firstwatch, is also Canadian.
Anyway, pic related is one of the most popular and cheapest lagers here in South Africa. Not sure how direct the lineage is, or if other countries know about it. Not my first choice, but if it's the only draught available at a bar, I'll drink it. Decent nutty malt flavour, and good bang for buck at 5.5%

People are so ingrained to drink Burton on Trent fartwater they may genuinely think it's what good beer should taste like

I'm kinda jealous, I live in a small city in the US that has like 27 breweries and it's like 95% IPAs this time of year, most of which seem to be ultra-pretentious bullshit that somehow manage to taste really thin and watery but overpoweringly hoppy and skunky at the same time.

At least it's better than what I saw in LA over the last few years where the whole beer section at every supermarket got cut in half to make room for 100 different unbearably sweet seltzers though.

at the start of the year i tried stella artois in belgium. common as muck in the uk, had to find it in a corner shop as i guess they are embarrassed of it. marginally higher abv, did taste slightly better but piss is piss. i also dont subscribe to the nonsense of "all those 0.5s add up" some people have, just drink better quality beer

It isn’t fizzy like keg beers or most bottled beer. “Real Ale” isn’t really a style just the method of dispense, it’s generally synonymous with cask conditioning, but also includes bottle conditioning.

Isn’t served with extraneous CO2 and isn’t filtered or pasteurised, the yeast remains in the cask and it’s taste isn’t destroyed by the processes that keg uses.

Like other anons said it's a way of conditioning and serving beer rather than a style in itself. Theoretically you can have any type of beer as real ale but some styles lend themself more naturally as they were traditionally served that way like bitter, mild and porter
