I have discovered that premade tostadas SUCK and they will always crumble. Get normal corn tortillas and put them in the oven until they become tostadas and you will never have that problem again.

Imagine buying pre toasted toast. That's basically the same thing as premade tostadas.

Briefly fry a corntilla in oil, drain then build on that. It's good stuff fresh.

Too messy to fry and you can slap 15 of them in an oven and be done with it in 10 minutes. Are they traditionally fried??

Yeah, traditionally fried but it's super, super quick and they're only shallow fried rather than deep so you don't need much oil and it isn't terribly messy. They shouldn't be in there longer than a minute otherwise, they turn too crisp.
To be clear, I'm not Mexican or anything, this is just something I happen to know so if you've got other questions about beaner food, I can't help with that. I don't even really know the difference between a tostada and a tlayuda. They seem to be exactly the same thing to me

If it's too crisp, it will fall apart. A quick fry will get the edges crisp and the rest of it will bubble but not turn into shards upon consuming. It can't be premade because the edges will lose their crispness with time if they're not fried to a crisp to begin with.

You fry them lightly so they're still a little chewy

notice how your tostadas have refried beans as the base? Do you see that EVER stuffed in a crunchy taco shell? There is your answer.

Eat it first, and only get 1 of them. If it's consistently falling apart, then use your fork and knife, dummy. If you think the restaurant is at fault, they might havre needed to crisp the shell, or drain their beans better, I dunno. Maybe it sat under lamps too long before bringing it out.

Untoasted corn tortillas are thicker and freshly baked are stronger. Idk you should try it.

I fry my tortillas for enchiladas. I think I would prefer baked for tostadas because I like them crispy, but I'm going to give frying a shot. I kinda hate overly greasy mexican food

On a completely unrelated note check out this cool recipe I made recently. Stuffed rehydrated ancho peppers with this traditional green I forget the name of and goat cheese. I always find fun weird fruit and veggies at this mex mart and tried the first recipe I found. The bitter and smoky of the ancho mixed wonderfully with goat cheese and almost kale like chewy green. Like a healthy rellenos!

Green is called huauzontle. A little laborious to prepare, but it was really really delicious and it is super nutrient dense.

It's hard to make large enough corn tortillas. Tacos have their place and rightfully so.

So my local -berto's has a special with a big ass tostada, a beef taco, and ricinbeenz or two chicken rolled tacos that, when I discovered it was like $6. It's now closer to $8 but over that time I learned everything does fall off and awkward to bite into, but that's not how it's meant to be eaten. I just off a bite sized piece when I want a bite and eat it like nachos. Nobody looks at me like a puta gringo now
