Bath & Body Works did the same thing last week. Some utterly repulsive overly effeminate type's video is reposted to their actual website and app, like the dude is an authority on women's scents, listing his favorites over the decades. All that to shill some low end dupes of designer originals. It might as well be that weirdo's Bud Light can. I purposely did not shop them for a long while.

I watched the video and came to the conclusion that maybe this is just a matter of this kind of sandwich not going down well in a place like Australia. What I got from the video is that while he enjoys the flavors that each part of this sandwich provides, he doesn't really like the sweetness of maple with sausage, egg and cheese. I actually think this sandwich is fairly good and I generally like the flavor profile of maple syrup's sweetness along with the sausage and everything else. 8 AUD seems pretty steep for this sandwich, though, that is fair to say.

Because the modern advertising machine works on exerting social influence through popular social media figures. It's fucked a lot of young people really care and trust what their favorite people on tiktok have to say. So McDonald's and others pay them to say good things about their products and services, or even set up fake rivalries that play out through their social media proxies. This creates emotional investment from young consumers which amplifies the brand (benefits investment) and and leads to direct sales (boosts revenue). They have established control over consumer choice through social pressure and selection. Campaigns to paint their brands as for winners and competitor brands for losers are not new, everyone remembers "Hi, I'm a Mac". But this approach could never be this insidious and prolific until the modern social media landscape.

Most Americans I know think it's gross also. There will always be that one person who never grew up and likes sugar wherever they can stuff it. People who grew up dumping syrup all over their eggs and sausage and somehow not vomiting at the very sight of it. Those things don't sell nearly as well as their regular breakfast sandwiches, but the fat fucks who love them really love them.
