>>21458990>Then why are you defending something you know is bad?My claim is only that there is nothing in Genesis that forbids weed. Nothing more.
>The point is that the Almighty Himself does, in fact, want us to restrict ourselves from certain parts of His own creation. That part I understand, but I think you are making a leap to then include weed in that category without any indication that that is what God wants.
He doesn't speak on weed one way or the other. He doesn't speak on a lot of things, and it takes more theological rigor than saying "he forbade SOME things" to convince me that the thing in question is one of them. What is your evidence that weed is one of those things?
>why would it be permissible to partake in something that makes sins like Sloth, Gluttony, or even Lust more pronounced? Are you held accountable for sinning, or because there was a good chance you'd sin, even if you didn't?
You could make all of these statements about alcohol too, but most Christians don't think God forbade alcohol, especially not by way of the forbidden fruit.
It's not being too literal. That just isn't what the passage says.
>a society with a cultural standard of enforced sobriety is an all-around better oneI mostly agree. I think it's a healthier and more clearminded lifestyle for people, and that the cultural ideas around alcohol and weed consumption are out of alignment with reality, but it has drawbacks in the form of top-down state control and difficulty with enforcement. I think certain drugs like caffiene and controlled low doses of certain tryptamines / phenylethylamines, or medically administered short courses of antidepressants / antipsychotics can be beneficial.
