Coffee and beer "objectively" taste BAD. Right? lol, you're a genius.

One thing I've learned with experience is that taste is mostly a matter of familiarity. Assuming you're a normal person without an eating disorder, you can learn to like pretty much anything just by eating (or in this case, drinking) it enough times.

Drink black, unsweetened coffee every day for a week or so. By the end you'll be able to taste more subtle notes in the coffee and you will grow to enjoy it.

Taste is affected a lot by expectation.

Example: the worst water I ever tasted was from a water fountain I had drank from thousands of times. The only difference was I was exhausted, and my brain was expecting ‘apple juice’. I can’t describe what the taste actually was, but I suspect it was the opposite of apple juice.

do the more you dislike the taste of something, the more addicting it is?
I love coffee, I love the taste of black coffee, switching to decaf was easy for me.
I love the taste of beer, drinking responsibly is easy for me, unlike Vodka.
I love the taste of cigs, quitting was easy for me though.
Hate the taste of energy drinks, quitting was hard. Hated the taste of sugary and ultra processed junk, quitting was hard.
Why. My mom and family in general is addicted to all of these, yet I was the one who was able to quit / not be addicted to it.

From a purely pleasure perspective black coffee is not very pleasurable. The only enjoyable thing about it is the nice flavour (if you're drinking good quality coffee), the mouthfeel (viscosity, presence of particles, acidity etc). The latte with it's bootload of sugar, artificial flavours and spices is much more enjoyable. Not to mention the delicious milky base which gives your body much needed calories.

From a utilitarian perspective black coffee has more caffeine which keeps you awake, and also encourages bowel movement because of its nature as a hot beverage

Don't know why but this reminds me. I saw a post by this redditor once. He was saying how he enjoys the taste of vodka but has never been drunk and is terrified of getting drunk. So for his 22nd birthday he was going to go to the pub a d order a large meal with a shot of vodka and glass of water. He intended on periodically sipping the vodka over the course of an hour while eating and downing a glass of water after each sip.

Lots of people get coffee wrong. It tastes like shit when you drink it alone but combines very well with various meals. Fantastic for typical breakfasts. It's like if you had tried to eat ketchup alone with a spoon.
Tea is better drunk alone as it's way more subtle but coffee is unsuited for that.

I've had really delicious black coffee before, and really good beer. Most coffee sucks though, because the biggest factors in how good coffee is the quality of the beans, and the freshness of the roast, most people don't roast their own. Everything else is details, and every improvement you make to the brewing process is diminishing returns at best and placebo at worst. I've absolutely had coffee that tasted like chocolate and fruit, that's not a meme.
As for beer, I'm not an expert on it at all, I barely ever drink, but I can tell you that the black isle oat stout I tried tasted WAY better than the cheap beer they had at the office christmas party - the former had a sort of "deep", smooth, almost spicy (like dessert spicy, not hot spicy) taste, while the other one was literally like piss and dishwater.

Coffee beans themselves taste terrible. Like many foods it's an ingredient, not just something you chow down by itself.
Does chocolate actually taste good? Try a spoonful of dry pure cocoa powder. It's disgusting. It's shit. It's only good when mixed with sugar and diluted down with something like milk or cream or put in cake mix.

Even the most autistic coffee purist dilutes the coffee with water. Most people also add cream and sugar which makes coffee taste good.

Wrong. Coffee purists drink espresso, the purest form of coffee short of just eating the actual beans, which nobody would ever do. As for people who add cream and sugar, they don't like coffee, they just want a caffeine hit in a pleasant and drinkable form.

Espresso is 97.8% to 99% water. That's as pure as anyone takes their coffee.
What's funny about coffee autists is that they are retarded. That whole ''espresso'' thing somehow tricks them into thinking they are drinking some pure coffee juice because the ''''''''''''''''brewing''''''''''''''''' process is obfuscated by a machine that uses fancy terms like ''muh pressure'' to ''brew'' the coffee. I am sure coffee autists believe they are drinking the purest form of coffee straight from the beans.

Depends. Most coffee I've gotten at McDick's/Starbucks/etc. has been burnt or stale, and that's the what makes it taste like bitter dirt. At that point you need to add stuff to cover it up and make it palatable, which is what they expect you to do and why it's not a problem for them.
But if you get fresh beans, I was surprised to find that you really can taste the difference. Grinding your own beans, you can make an enjoyable cup of black coffee at home with a $20 drip machine, as long as you don't let it sit around for too long.

So coffee DOES taste good, provided you don't fuck it up on purpose.

>So coffee DOES taste good, provided you don't fuck it up on purpose.
i've had authentic coffee you describe. it's acceptable but i don't go out of my way to have it. i fundamentally don't prefer the taste of coffee.

It doesn't taste good
That's the reason I drink it, because it's a bad tasting caffeine source so I won't have too much

Its more like medicine than a beverage meant to be enjoyed

the caffeine dose from coffee and energy drinks is toxic. a large cup of black tea with milk or two gives you way smoother energy boost and clear head without the anxious jitter and amplified mental illness. i figured it was tolerance so i tried having energy drink or coffee every day for weeks and nope, felt unsettled every day.

And yet you're still here. Curious.

Personally I'm glad 4chan still exists, it's like the only remnant left of what the Internet used to be before it got taken over by corporations. But there are still a few Redditors like you who get lost and find your way onto 4chan where you immediately begin complaining that it's not a censored, corporate-run hugbox like you're used to.

Really, it's just a remnant left of what the internet was like when 15 year olds were in charge.

You got me OP I'm an agent of big bean and I've only been pretending to like the yucky black water in order to sucker people into buying and make my bean stocks pump.

Yeah it's really not totally worth it unless you really like coffee. Most people are happy enough with coffee-based shakes, and even I'll settle for subpar coffee with milk.

I'm 33 years old and I've never drank a sip of coffee in my life (and no energy drinks or caffeinated teas either). It's just another thing that makes me feel like an outcast, like the rest of my pathetic life. Everyone is addicted to coffee basically from teenage years.

The only black coffee I like is Mcdonalds too. I got one by mistake and to my surprise it actually had a pleasant taste. Unlike when I tried folgers and Maxwell house black.

Leaf? IIRC McDonalds gets their coffee from the same distributor Tim Hortons did like 10-ish years ago before the hue takeover.
