Kroger, Safeway, and Walmart have hog items in the deli but not out for self service. I’ve liked the things I’ve tried at the Whole Foods hot bar but it’s been a very long time

Wrong idiot. The primary function of a restaurant is to serve hot food and generally either has a qualified chef or at the least a business model focused on serving hot food.
A supermarket is mainly focused on selling groceries, with a store manager who is busy keeping the coke shelf full and wagies who likely have no clue and couldn’t care less.

The chicken tenders and stuff at my local grocers (andronicos) are pretty good! Never been unhappy with whatever I’ve gotten aside from quantity to price

Safeway's hot bar is pretty grim. I liked this stuff when I was a 16 year old fat kid but now the only thing I'll eat, occasionally, is the baby back ribs when they have them out fresh

best hot bar in my area by a mile is the whole foods breakfast buffet

I like to partake of the wedge fries at my local Ralphs (Kroger for the East Coast friends) every now and then. Still pretty solid, especially on the days with the 6 dollar fried chicken.

I’m always up for some boiled veg.

Corned beef is like the easiest thing to make. Get a point for 1.99 a pound, spread the seasoning on top, bake for like 3 1/2 hours at 350. Boom... as much corned beef as you can eat for cheap.

Kind of funny that I've even heard of these since I'm East Coast and have only been to the West Coast or PNW a couple of times. There was a pizza place in Hartford, CT where I used to live and "Jo Jo potatoes" were one of the side items. I was curious so I ordered them. Fried wedges woohoo.
