Japan is an extremely nationalistic country, which means the people there tend to bury the deep rot under the surface and pretend that their country is a utopia. It's quite successful at fooling stupid people, but those who have actually lived there know how deeply troubled Japanese society is. The Nordic countries used to do the same, although there is now enough awareness that these countries have been ruined by mass immigration.
With Japan there is also the secondary consideration that it's the second most autistic country in the world, which does tend to attract a certain breed of smelly, annoying autist.
