My Thai grandma used to melt an empty plastic water bottle into hot oil before frying chips or fries or chicken. She lived to be 98 years old.

>What are probabilities
But anyway, how did that help crisp them and did it make everything taste like a tire fire? Burnt/melted plastic has a very offensive smell that I wouldn't want involved with food at all.

I suppose it made a layer of plastic and whatever she was frying got coated with it. I do remember her chips being extra crispy and my mom yelling at her to not do it. I don't remember any toxic smells.

Throw it out and do it like your granny did. Melt the plastic in the oil
